Lena
"Lena? Why are you alone?" Socrate stared at Lena in confusion.
She had almost run him over. "Oh! Uncle! Sorry."
"Where's your bodyguard?"
"Um..."
Socrate smiled. In the light of the light bulbs, his brooch shimmered almost reddish. The snake's eyes sparkled menacingly. "Did you run away from him?"
"Of course not..." she lied and smoothed out her light blue dress.
"Aha..." Her uncle didn't believe her. "And where is he then?"
"Not here?"
"What did you do?"
"Nothing."
Lena had done something. She spilled grape juice on his uniform so that he had to change his clothes, and she could escape him. Of course, she pretended it had been an accident.
She wanted to look for the boy. The day before, she had almost passed him... Almost. An elevator door got in her way. Samuel was then instructed not to let Lena roam the corridors of the employees. Since it wasn't appropriate for a young lady of her rank.
The instruction came from Mina herself.
The elevator door... Doesn't Mina want me to meet him? Why?
Who is he?
Violet hair.
Why did a stranger's hair seem so familiar to her?
Why did Mina interfere?
This only made her stubbornness and determination flame all the higher.
She knew this boy, didn't she? But why wasn't she allowed to meet him?
What's going on?
"Lena? Dear?" Socrate raised his eyebrows.
"Yes, uncle?" She smiled embarrassedly.
"Here are the corridors of the staff... You shouldn't be here." He pointed to a door behind him. From there, a staircase led down to the staff's living quarters. Originally, she wanted to take the elevator, but strangely enough, it suddenly stopped working. She suspected Mina.
"Oops." She continued to smile. As innocent as possible.
"Lena?"
"Yes?"
"Well... We had to fire one of the maids. She stole... You really shouldn't be running around among the staff."
Lena grimaced skeptically. "Because one of the employees stole?"
Her uncle stroked her head. "Caution is always advised. The employees' rooms are all searched. Theft, dear. Something like this must not happen. You really shouldn't go there. Our staff is upset. Rightly so, but theft is a crime."
"Oh." So her uncle was afraid that an angry employee might harass her in some way about it? Yelling at her, or worse?
"And the maid?" she asked.
"She has already left the island. She will be held in the prison of Luftstadt and will start her new life in one of the villages in a few days."
Luftstadt. Air City. Her uncle Soel was mayor of this city.
"In one of the villages?" Lena shook her head. "Does she come from one?"
"No. Her family lives in Luftstadt." Socrate shrugged his shoulders. "But theft in the seat of government? Simply sending her home would be too light a punishment. She is young. However, forgetting her in prison would be unforgivable. Nevertheless." He shook his head.
