"And the battle was long, it's the fight of our lives."

Rushing through the doors of my the warehouse Maja's in, box in hand as Grayson and I try to keep up with Jameson.

"$500. Take it or leave it, but we're taking her." He demands, throwing the money at the first guy he sees without even batting an eye and walking right past him towards the back office.

"You wouldn't think he'd just been disinherited with the way he's throwing that money around." I snort to Grayson as we follow him.

The very second Jameson gets into the office and sees Maja perched impatiently picking at her nails on the same chair I left her in, Jameson pounces, grabbing her into his arms and holding her so tight I'm certain she can't breathe.

He lets a sigh out against her hair, his hands gripping the back off her jacket tight until it crumples.

"You're fucking dead, Spencer!" He lets her go just to yell, pointing a furious finger my way and advances until Grayson has to nonchalantly place a singular hand up to push him back.

"I didn't want to." I swear, hands raised in surrender. "I told her to." Maja shrugs unfazed. "As it turns out, the devil you don't know is better than the devil you do." She looks to her ex boyfriend and they share a silent look of understanding.

"They made me tea." She smiles sweetly, holding up the half-drunken mug. "Are you fucking crazy? You don't take tea from strangers! Especially ones that hold you hostage." Jameson growls.

"I'm a willing hostage. And I couldn't resist, it's herbal." She winks, taking another sip with a playful wiggle of her brows.

"We're leaving." He grits, grabbing her by the forearm and escorting her out like some kind of bouncer.

"Bye." Maja calls to the guys working as we march our way back out.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you two fuck-wits break up.. then get back together, then break up?.. Or are you back together already?" I tease.

"Don't fucking start, Spence." Jameson warns with a sneer.

The car is silent, but I slip the note out my pocket, reading it over.

In the cold where snow will fly, find the warmth under the sky. A place where stars and silence meet, True North waits, where heat feels sweet. Place the paper in the glow, and hidden words will soon bestow, then you will know.

"This cryptic motherfucker keeps giving me riddles like I'm rumpel-mother-fucking-stiltskin." I scowl.

Jameson scoffs under his breath at me, then Grayson gets a call, answering it and nodding silently. Eventually he ends the call and looks between the three of us in the back of the car.

"It was Avery. She's found a new clue." He explains to Jameson, who gestures for him to go on.

"We're taking another trip, to True North."

I freeze, looking up and finally paying attention. "You're joking." I gape. "I am not." Grayson blinks flatly.

"Count me in I guess." I shrug with a smile. "Wonderful." Jameson sighs, sick of me. "Well?" He asks Maja with a cocked brow.

"Should we leave Noah alone?" She asks unsurely. "Noah's a big boy. He can manage a couple days without his twinnie." I pout teasingly, they don't laugh.

"I'll call him." Jameson states, already getting his phone out and finding his number.

"Why do you insist on inviting my ex-boyfriend everywhere I go?" I groan. "Well.. as I recall, I'm inviting him. I don't actually remember inviting you, Spencer. Why is it you want to come anyway? To solve the mystery you refuse to tell anyone about." He retorts.

"Okay, calm the fuck down. Invite him all you want, but just know your baby sister resents you for it." I glare at him. "I think I can live with that." Jameson smiles sarcastically, flipping me off.

I look at the paper again, turning it around, on the back there's a small piece of red filter paper taped to the back.

It seems right that True North is the place to go, but the riddle might take me a while to figure out. Good thing I have time.
