3 - A Fresh Friend

The next day, Taurus walked into math class, sulking. She had thought about Gemini's odd behavior. She didn't know anyone in this class long enough to know if that was normal. Still, some part of Taurus felt like Gemini was not to be messed with. Some part of Taurus told her that Gemini didn't threaten people often, meaning that if she did threaten someone it wasn't to be taken lightly.

As she walked in, Taurus looked around the class. Most everyone was the same as yesterday, only today, Cancer looked up from Pisces' drawing. He smiled at Taurus and waved her over. Taurus almost waved back, but then she remembered the incident during gym. Her gut churned and she looked away. From the corner of her eye, she saw Cancer's smile drop, and Taurus melted a second. But then Gemini caught Taurus' eye, making Taurus stiffen up.

Taurus pulled out a random chair, distracted, and nearly sat on top of someone. Taurus gasped and exclaimed, "I'm so sorry!" She looked to see the daydreaming girl, smiling up at Taurus.

"It's alright!" She said with a laugh. "Taurus, right? The new girl."

Taurus smiled. "If that's what they're calling me these days!" They both laughed. "You're Aquarius, correct?"

The girl gasped in mock surprise. "How did you know? Nobody ever knows me!"

Taurus laughed. "Gemini told me." Taurus' smile dropped as she remembered Gemini's threat.

Aquarius frowned. "Is something wrong?" She looked truly concerned. Taurus debated on whether or not to tell Aquarius, knowing that people that threatened others usually didn't want other people knowing. "Don't worry," Aquarius said, interrupting Taurus' thoughts. "I won't tell anyone. I'm kinda more of a loner in this class. I don't mind it. I can daydream more!" She put her head on her fist and looked upward, as if in deep thought.

Taurus shook Aquarius' wrist. "Aqua. Aqua. Aqua!"

Aquarius finally looked up at Taurus and said, "What?" After seeing Taurus' questioning expression, she said, "Oh right. So what's up?"

Taurus shook her head and started laughing. "Well, yesterday, after gym, I was just changing, when Gemini came up to me and demanded I stay away from Cancer or she'd kill me. I've been scared ever since." Taurus frowned a bit.

Aquarius nodded and muttered, "Hmm...." She thought or a moment, then stuck a finger up. "I've got it. I know why Gem did that."

Taurus' eyes widened. Actually, she had spent some time the night before, wondering why Gemini acted that way towards Taurus. Typically, her first hypothesis was some kind of crush or something. Maybe Taurus was being too close to Cancer, so it seemed like she liked him. But then Gemini would have just told Taurus to lay off, not to stay away forever. The only reason anyone would ask another person to stay completely away from another was if the other person..... Taurus felt her cheeks heat up momentarily.

Aquarius smiled. "Aliens." Taurus furrowed her eyebrows together in total confusion. "Gemini obviously got abducted by aliens! Why else would she say that?"

Taurus laughed. "Okay, now you're acting like Buster from Arthur." Aquarius gave Taurus an odd look, making Taurus blush. "My brother." she said. Aqua nodded slowly in understanding.

"Well, I guess there's one other reason she could have said that." Aqua scanned the room quickly and lowered her voice. "It's been long rumored that Gem has had a crush on Cancer. After all, they were the first two to join this gifted class. Maybe she thought you were getting too close to Cancer?"

"Yeah, that could be it, only why would she tell me to stay away completely? If I was getting too close, she could just tell me to lay off, right?"

"Hmm.... you have a point. Honestly, the only reason I would ever tell someone to stay away from the person I like would be if the person I like likes that person. Meaning, Gemini probably thinks-"

"Yeah, I get it!" Taurus screamed, a blush forming on her cheeks. "I get it."

Aquarius laughed. "Chill Taurus! It's not a big deal! Calm down!"

Taurus eyed Aqua. "Please! It's so weird!" Suddenly, Taurus felt a smile creep up.

Aqua said, "The only reason you should feel shy about it is if - holy cow, you-" Taurus cupped her hand over Aqua's mouth, while Aquarius continued to squeal. Only then did Taurus actually realize the truth, but she didn't want to face it. She lifted her hand off of Aquarius' mouth, and smiled softly. Aqua grinned. "I've gotta come up with a ship name and all!!" She squealed once more before Mr. Collins walked up to the front of the class and began teaching the math class.

As the first four periods went on, Taurus hung out with Aquarius. They began sharing stories about their old schools, their personal friends, and things like that. Aquarius only arrived a month before Taurus had, so she felt like she could relate with each other a lot. They also both were pretty smart and loved Language Arts, so they worked well together, sharing and comparing notes and questions.

By the time lunch rolled around, Taurus nearly forgot completely about the threatening Gemini, the ever-quiet Pisces, and the kind Cancer. Taurus ate lunch with Aquarius, where the girls laughed and giggled about the first things that popped into their minds. Before they knew it, the day was over, and Aqua and Taurus had each other's phone numbers. Taurus was happier than she had been at the end of the previous day, and she was fine with it.

She just had to deal with her newfound feelings for Cancer.

Cancer wasn't sure what happened with Taurus.

Last night, he went home, all excited and happy. He didn't know why, but all he knew was that Taurus made him happy. He was in a better mood than usual, and Gemini knew it. Thing was, after PE that day, Taurus wasn't talking to him. She ignored him and hung out with Aquarius. She laughed a lot and smiled with Aquarius. Thing was, Cancer didn't mind too much that she wasn't talking to him. If Taurus was happy he was okay.

Which was where he got confused.

Why did he think that about the new girl? What was going on with him anyways? It didn't make much sense to him. He searched all the different things he felt about Taurus on Google, and the first search result was an article called, 'How To Know If You Have A Crush'.

Did Cancer like Taurus?
