Taurus was just about to sleep when she got the text. "Call me," it said. "It's urgent." Taurus replied a quick, "k," an then called up her friend on the home phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Qua!" Taurus greeted, using her brand new nickname for her friend. "What's up?"
"Taurus?" Aquarius replied shakily. "Is that you?"
Taurus immediately became worried. "Aquarius? What's wrong?"
"We messed up, T. We messed up real bad."
Taurus frowned. "What do you mean?!"
"They were right, those two were right, it was true, it's happening. Taurus, it's happening!" Aqua sounded genuinely scared, like something bad was happening.
"Aqua, I don't understand what you're saying. What happened?!"
"Check your texts, T. Scroll all the way to the top."
"Wha-" Taurus pulled out her cell and opened iMessage. She opened the first chat, a group called 'Zodiac Academy GT', and scrolled all the way to the top, the home phone still on her ear. "Oh, shoot." Taurus muttered. "This is no-"
"It is, T. It is."
The first message was a video. A video from Libra, who Taurus recalled, from her conversations with Aqua, was the security officer's niece. The thumbnail looked like security footage inside the teacher's meeting room, where many teachers were all sitting in their desks. The video was an aerial shot, so you could see everyone's heads. Taurus clicked on the video and began to watch.
In the video, the teachers were talking about some issue, something about the Taste-Testing & Napping clubs being removed from the Clubs list. All the seats were filled but one. After about two minutes, a tall man with glasses walked in & occupied the empty seat. Everyone stopped talking and looked at the man. He nodded once, then began to speak. "Hello everyone! I'm glad you were able to make it for our meeting! Everyone seems to be here..." The man looked around the table momentarily. "Great! We're all here. Now, let's get to business. Who knows about the GT plan?"
Everyone raised their hands except one rather large man with a gray cap. "Ah, Billy. Right, you were sick on the day we explained about this at our past meeting, correct?" Coach Robertson nodded shakily, as if slightly nervous or scared. "Good. So, who wants to explain to Billy?" A slightly large woman wearing an excessive amount of makeup raised her hand. "Oh! Mrs. Rodriguez! Always so eager to help. Go ahead, enlighten us!
The woman stood up and began to speak. "Yes, Mr. Stern." She had a thick accent, so her words were a bit hard to understand. She reached into her massive handbag and pulled out what looked like a packet of some sort. She slid it across the table to Coach Robertson, who caught the papers easily & began to follow along.
"We are using the GT kids for our operation to end the world. They are all apart of the Zodiacs, which means we can harness their power to basically ruin the world. We will use treadmills to harness the power. The zodiac kids are all vulnerable to lightning, so we will hook up all the treadmills to an excessively large power source. All the electricity will make them activate their power, and we can use that power to rule the world."
Billy scoffed. "So you're telling me we're making a program based off fantasy. We could kill these kids just off a theory off some random website?"
Mr. Stern chuckled, his tone making him sound threatening. "Billy, Billy, Billy. You don't understand! This is completely reliable! And sometimes, we must make sacrifices for the good of the greater population."
Coach Robertson's face twisted in horror. "Yeah, the greater good being you and your sadistic minions." He rolled his eyes dramatically.
Mr. Stern's smile disappeared. "Billy.... please stop now!"
Coach Robertson raised his voice. "I've listened and gone along with all your crazy plans, but this.. this is too much. I can't do it."
Mr. Stern slammed his hands on the table, growling. His lips twisted into a cruel grin. "Coach Robertson, may I please see you in the closet for a moment?" He grabbed the Coach's collar and muttered inaudibly into his face.
The coach and Mr. Stern left briskly, stalking into the closet. The two were gone for a while, leaving the whole room nervous and anxious. The two returned, and it was obvious to see something had happened. Coach Robertson, who had entered the room confidently, was now shaking and pale. The principal returned to his chair, straightening out his tie. He took a long swig out of his mug, then slammed it onto the table. He had a smile plastered onto his face. "Now, if that is over, I believe we have more to discuss!"
They spoke for more time about the plan, stating everything that Capricorn and Virgo had claimed, plus more frightening details. The video fast forwarded up to a scene of Mr. Stern speaking. "Thank you all for coming! We can dismiss the meeting-"
Beep, beep!
The whole room turned to look at Mrs. Rodriguez. Mr. Stern's head snapped as he turned to look at Mrs. Rodriguez. "Mrs. Rodriguez, what is my rule about phones during my meetings?"
Mrs. Rodriguez fished into her large purse for a moment, coming out with a phone. Wide-eyed, she turned her gaze away from the phone. "Mr. Stern!" she exclaimed in her thick accent, turning the phone toward the man. Mr. Stern's eyes widened at the sight of the screen.
On the screen was a name, and a call duration of 1 hour. "Capricorn," the screen said, plus the words "call ended" on it. Everyone gasped, commotion reigning in the room.
"Silence!" Mr. Stern called. Everyone hushed. "Do not fret. I will fix this. Those kids will have hell to pay when they come back tomorrow."
The video ended there. Voice caught in her throat, Taurus simply stared at the dark screen of her phone for several moments. It took her a second to let out her breath, and even that was ragged. So the girls were telling the truth. The world was in danger, and the weapons truly were Taurus and her new classmates.
Suddenly, Taurus had a sinking feeling in her stomach. A feeling that reigned in her gut, churning like a swarm of butterflies buzzing around the walls of her insides. Taurus was startled back to reality by Aquarius, saying, "Taurus?" through the phone.
Taurus nodded. "Yeah. I'm here."
Taurus could hear what sounded like a sob through the phone. "We were wrong, Taurus. We screwed up big time."
Taurus sighed shakily, but said, "It's okay, Aqua. Nobody's hurt, and we can fix this. Now that we know, we can apologize and make it better. I just don't understand one thing - McKenna. She's an extra person-"
"No, T. Someone is hurt. Go to your list of messages again, and click on the one unfamiliar number."
Taurus opened the list and saw the top unread message - an unknown number, no name. She clicked on the number curiously, and just as she read the text, Taurus heard the beep beep of the call being dropped. The home phone dropped to the floor as Taurus looked at the crystal picture above the text.
One unfamiliar place, an unfamiliar number, but two faces everyone knew too well.
"Don't look too far - they're right here with me!"
