-Austin's Pov-

I'm Doctor Austin Carlile.
I'm a demonologist (My specialty anyway, I dabble in others. Medical and Pathology.)
I've even had my own television show in the past, I would hunt demons and ghouls with a nice crew of people. Soon after the fame, the show went under. Nobody believes in demons anymore. It's All about the little teeny hoppers with their infatuation with vampires or something, but that's a different story. Now I just work at a college here in Maine.

I'm a professor teaching witchcraft, Greek mythology, and so on.

Enough about me.

Tonight is the night I ask my long time girlfriend, Michelle to marry me. Oh I've loved her since we were young, she's stood by me when everyone turned their backs on me.

~~~That night~~~
After our dinner we made small talk.
I cut in "Michelle, do you love me?"
She seemed kinda caught off guard by this.
"Of course I do" she shuddered
I got on one knee and opened the box in front of her. A tear slid from her eye and with both her hands she closed the box and whispered
"Austin, I can't. " she sniffled
My heart felt like shards of glass and my face was hot.
I sat back in my seat.
"Wh-why? Did I do something wrong?"
I didn't want to show her any weakness so I didn't allow any tears to fall.
"I just think... I just think that there are better opportunities for me than just this. We can barely afford to live in our house." She tried rubbing my shoulder.
She's making excuses, we've never been in any economic struggle.
"There's someone else... isn't there?"
I said through my cupped hands
"Hon-"
She trembled
"Is there? Please just spair me the bullshit. " I slicked my hair back.
She nodded and her face had big rivers of tears from her eyes.
"I want you and your shit out of my house by tonight. Live with whoever you've been fucking behind my back." I fixed my tie and left.
I drove to the corner store and picked up a few bottles. Just something to numb the sting. When I got home not a shred of her existence was in ou- my house.
She works quick.
I dove into bed, Kicking off my shoes.
I dumped the bottles in my bed.
I took the ring box from out of my pocket and chucked it across the room. It landed on my bookshelf.
What a waste of money.
I flipped on the tv and loosened my tie.
Hell is real, I kissed him.Where stories live. Discover now
