I re-read the text over and over again. I wasn’t sure if what I was reading was a joke or if it was serious. Like really serious.
Tom was hovering over my shoulder looking at my phone which I held in my hand. I could hear his heart rate start to increase and his breathing became heavier. I knew that I had to calm him down before he did something he would regret in his state of anger. I turned round to face him and put my hands round his waist trying to comfort him in a hug.
“Stay calm, everything is going to be alright I know it, and whatever happens we are going to get through this together.” I whispered into his ear.
I noticed that his shoulders were no longer tense and his breathing had slowed. I was just thankful that I was able to calm him down. I wasn’t in the mood to see what his angry side would be like. I myself was terrified of the situation at hand but I did my best to conceal the fear with a small smile.
Thinking of the plan was the hardest part. I wasn’t sure what we could do or how we could approach Tom and Hunter’s father without getting a bullet tear through our hearts.
After continuous discussion we realised that we only had an hour left to reach Woodsend and us being undecided wasn’t going to help our case very much. Tom had come up with a plan, but the only problem was it was really risky. I knew though that we had to do anything to rescue Mar even if it meant putting our lives on the line.
*45 minutes later*
We were now only a couple of blocks away from Underlife Road and my nerves started to kick into gear. I dreaded the thought that Tom or Hunter or Mar could get hurt and that was the only thought running through my mind at the moment. I was distracted and I know Hunter could tell.
Hunter and I were in the same car together and Tom had said he needed to leave to go to do something. I was really upset with him, in the moment that I need him most his brother was the one that ended up being there for me.
“It’ll be alright Hope you just gotta keep calm alright?” Hunter said comfortingly. I knew he was right though, if I didn’t calm down then I was going to get distracted and this plan wasn’t going to work. I took some deep breaths to try and calm myself.
The car lights were dimmed suddenly and when I looked up from my lap I noticed that we were nearing the entrance to Underlife Road. The street was even creepier than the rumours let on and I felt a slight bit of fear for a moment.
The car slowed down and Hunter gave my hand a reassuring squeeze. The time had almost come to meet Tom and Hunter father and this was not the way I wanted to meet the family.
There were huge iron gates at the end of the street and I knew exactly that that would be where Mar was. As we approached the gates they opened with a loud scraping noise. The car moved forward slowly and I was now totally out of my comfort zone. I didn’t feel safe her I felt like someone or something could jump out at me at any given moment and this feeling put me on edge.
Shadows were moving around the car, darting quickly from side to side and the car suddenly came to a halt. I screamed out in surprise and fear. I turned my head to face Hunter and I saw that he was unsure of what was happening too. All of a sudden the car doors were jerked open and I was grabbed harshly and pulled out of the car. They had done the same to Hunter and the men that had taken us out of the car had guns to our head. We were roughly pushed forward towards the door of a warehouse. I had no idea where they were taking us but I had a feeling that I was not going to like it.
