This is a poem written from the perspective of a colored person during the times of segregation. It was an english assignment for after we finished To Kill a Mockingbird in eighth grade.
We live and we breathe,
We exist and we feel.
Why can't you see that,
Understand that we are real?We have minds alike,
But a different body type.
Our skin is darker,
When yours is light.
Yet you seem to judge us,
When that's all that is different. We don't truly understand the nature,
Of your hatred.
Where did it come from?
Why does it exist at all?
Did we do something wrong,
By just being born?If that's the case,
Why can't we exchange our race?
Why can't we be like you,
And torture you to?
