Night was falling slowly, layer by layer of darkness wrapping the houses and streets. The sky was stretched tight like a canvas about to tear, and the wind carried the warning of what was coming - a storm.

Lightning flashed high above, and seconds later, thunder rumbled deeply, shaking the windows.

Y/N lay on her bed, dressed in a soft hoodie, trying to focus on a video on her phone. But the sound of thunder and the sharp light that occasionally lit up her room kept pulling her attention away.

Her phone buzzed. A message.

Shu:
"Are you awake?"

She quickly unlocked her screen and replied.

Y/N:
"I am. Is everything okay?"

The reply came after a few seconds.

Shu:
"This might sound strange... but can you come over tonight? I can't sleep. The thunder."

Y/N paused for a moment. She hadn't expected that. Shu wasn't someone who showed weakness easily. Always calm, composed - like a wall that nothing could break. But now, his message felt honest. Open.

Y/N:
"I'm coming."

It didn't take her more than two minutes to pull on sweatpants and sneakers. She grabbed her phone and keys, threw her hoodie over her head, and stepped out into the rain.

His house was just a few minutes away. Light from his room spilled out onto the pavement. The door opened before she even knocked. Shu stood there, hair messy, wearing a hoodie over pajamas, with a tired but grateful expression.

"Thank you," he said softly.

"Of course," Y/N replied, stepping inside. "You know you can call me anytime."

He closed the door behind her, and another rumble of thunder echoed through the air. Shu closed his eyes for a second.

"I didn't think it would be this loud..." he mumbled.

Y/N stepped closer and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "Hey... I'm here. It's going to be okay."

He looked at her, eyes slightly red from lack of sleep, but full of emotion.

"I just... didn't want to be alone tonight."

"That's why you called me," she said gently. "Because you knew I wouldn't let you face it alone."

Shu nodded. "Exactly."

While she made tea in the kitchen, Y/N glanced at him sitting at the edge of the bed, his back slightly hunched, hands resting in his lap. He looked quietly vulnerable. Not the Shu everyone knew - but the version only she ever saw.

She brought the mugs and sat next to him.

"Does it feel like being a kid again?" she asked with a soft smile.

Shu let out a quiet breath. "Yeah. Like this sound pulls something out of me I thought I buried."

"You don't have to bury it," she said. "You just have to share it. So it's not heavy."

He looked at her.

"You calm me down. Just your voice... or you being here. I don't know how, but it takes the weight off."

"That's why I'm here," Y/N replied, resting her head on his shoulder. "To remind you that you don't have to carry everything alone."

Later that night, as they were both lying under the blankets, Shu stared at the ceiling.

"You know... it wasn't easy to send that message."

"Because you thought it would make you look weak?"

"Yeah. But then I thought - if I can't be weak in front of you... then who can I be weak with?"

Y/N gently squeezed his hand. "Be whatever you want when you're with me. No masks here."

A sudden loud thunder shook the windows again. Shu closed his eyes, but this time he just held her hand tighter.

"Will you stay the night?" he asked, his voice low.

"Of course," she answered. "I'm not going anywhere."

The room was quiet, except for the rain tapping on the windows and the occasional thunder rolling across the sky. Y/N lay facing him, his hand beneath hers, fingers gently intertwined. The warmth of his palm and the calm in his gaze spoke louder than any words.

"You know," he whispered, "I think I fell for you earlier than I realized."

Y/N smiled. "And now you know?"

"I know."

She hugged him. "I love you, Shu."

He smiled gently and kissed her forehead. "I love you too, Y/N."

Some time before dawn, the thunder finally faded. The clouds began to part, leaving behind freshness and silence. Shu slept peacefully - the first true sleep that night. Y/N stayed awake, watching his face, thinking how peaceful he looked.

She brushed his hair back and whispered:
"I'll always be here. When it thunders. And when it doesn't."

---

Morning came quietly. Sunlight pushed its way through the window, casting golden trails across the white sheets. Shu opened his eyes, slightly surprised.

"You're still here," he said sleepily.

"Of course I am," she replied.

"I stole your sleep."

"No, Shu. You gave me something better."

"What?"

Y/N looked at him and softly said:
"You gave me your trust. The part of yourself you don't show to anyone. And thank you for that."

He hugged her tightly, as if words weren't needed anymore.
