Will had moved away a few weeks ago, Jaylyn and Adam had stayed in the country house where they'd raised him afterwards but today was the day, or rather evening, they faked their deaths. She wasn't sure how they had even managed to pull off the wedded couple until Will turned eighteen, especially considering they didn't even bother to wear rings, but they had. One thing confused both of them however, what Will had said before he left. 'You haven't seemed to change at all since I was a kid... you know, my mom once met a doctor who was a bit like that. He died, he was shot down the street from our house, but I swear I saw him a few days later.' Adam had been quick to shoot him down, claiming that Will hadn't known what he saw as a child and it was only a misremembered memory. Jaylyn was just glad he hadn't killed her nephew right then.
"Ready?" Adam came into the room with their few things they needed.
Jaylyn nodded and glanced around one last time. "Let's burn it."
Adam curled an arm around her and pulled her to him before looking down at her with a small grin. "Tell me Ms. Carver, are you ready to join me in death?"
She gave a grin back. "It would be an honor."
Adam started the fire, after that the house burned quickly. He had already dragged two dead people into the house to be burned to leave skeletons, something Jaylyn still didn't quite like, but it had been necessary. She knew when Will found out he would be devastated but it was also necessary he thought them both dead... before he got suspicious about why they didn't seem to age, which they didn't. Her nephew would get over it; he was tough; Adam had made sure of that.
"Back to traveling..." She sighed as they stood outside and watched the flames burn. "Where are we going now?"
"I was thinking about going to Paris." Adam replied from beside her. "We can stay there for a few years. After that... we'll see."
"Do you think Will really saw an immortal?"
He frowned and turned away with her following. "It sounds like it, but he was three. I don't think children could remember things like that."
"If he was surprised or shocked enough." She replied. "He did still seem a bit suspicious that we weren't telling him something."
"If there is an immortal out there we don't know about they won't be hidden for long if they keep that up." Adam responded curtly.
It lapsed into silence as they walked to the train station, from there they would ride it to Paris, after that, well Jaylyn was sure Adam had figured everything out. He usually did. She stood off to the side waiting while he bought the tickets and went to join him as he walked towards the train.
"Your room is to the right of mine. If anyone asks we're siblings." He informed her as they got in and walked down the narrow halls and stopped at the rooms.
Jaylyn had been on a few trains before when they traveled but usually the trips had been short, they'd never needed rooms before. "How long will it take to get to Paris?"
"A few days." He said before handing her the key to her room and going into his.
Jaylyn unlocked and opened the door before taking in the small room. Being on a train it didn't have much furniture, just the necessities like a bed, chair, small desk, and dresser. She threw her stuff on the bed before walking over to the window and watched as the train began to leave the station and the town disappeared behind them. In the far side of town she swore smoke could still be seen rising from the burning house. Country sprung up the farther they went and Jaylyn eventually grew bored of the sight, she decided to actually put her things away instead... not that it would take long. All she had to do was put her extra outfit away and she put her picture and pocketknife on the desk beside the bed. Dinner would be served soon probably but she'd eaten before the fire, instead she sat up against the headboard and turned her thoughts to Will, he would hear about their deaths within the next few days, probably come back to pay his respects, then he would move on soon after while completely forgetting his suspicions he'd had about them being like that doctor. As the sky outside got darker the train's rumbling became background noise that slowly allowed her to drift off into sleep.
