July 25, 1945

Jaylyn heard Adam being dragged to his cell, ever since they'd gotten him they had seemed to forget she existed, which would be a relief if the entire purpose of her being captured hadn't been to save him. To her surprise the door to her cell unlocked and she glanced towards the light to see them dump Adam on the ground where a dark puddle was blooming from under him. She faintly recognized the young guard, Nick Wahl, give her a nod before leaving. Cautiously she walked forward and examined the gashes done to Adam's form.

"Ah..." Adam winced as he tried to move.

She held him still and felt him flinch a bit at her touch. "It's just me, you're fine..."

He opened his eyes and stared blankly at her for a moment before seeing who she was. "...Jay...?"

Jaylyn had never seen him look so broken before, and each time she saw him after a session it was like he cracked just a bit more. They might be immortal but it was obvious the memories and pain were starting to affect Adam; perhaps being such an old immortal had deteriorated his mental state to the point where something like this could happen. When he could talk it was about revenge, when he was strong enough to move, it was scratching a plan in the dirt, and when he was weak like he was now... she could bet he was thinking it.

She jumped slightly as he forced himself up, trembling with the effort, before seeing the real damage Mengele had done to him. A long cut ran from his chest to his abdomen and had be haphazardly stitched back up, she could also see bruises forming where needles had been jabbed into his skin to keep him alive during the process. He was smirking a bit, giving him the look of a mentally disturbed person with the addition of the shadows, and Jaylyn shivered.

"I guess we match now." He rasped. "At least until I die... That's why they put me in here right? So you could finish me?"

"Adam, they don't want me to kill you, Nick-" She stopped, hoping he hadn't caught her mistake but despite his injuries and clouded mind he still gave her a sharp glare.

"You're friends with one?" Adam gave her a betrayed look; his dark eyes seemed demonic. "That's why they leave you alone... traitor!"

"No." She backed away, though he made no move to attack. "I overheard someone say his name... I was going to say he probably made a mistake in the cell numbers."

Adam continued to glare at her but leaned back against the bars. "They are pretty stupid... that boy won't last the war once the Americans get here... I've heard guards muttering about it."

She mentally gave a sigh of relief that he believed her before moving beside him to examine some still bleeding wounds. "Do you know what I've heard?"

"Hmm?" He glanced at her as she put pressure on the wound.

"Your son is alive." It was true, Nick had confirmed it for her... and she trusted him despite what he was. He hadn't told her why he was helping Hitler and the Nazis but the way he acted made it seem like he was scared of something, he was being forced to help. "He's fine, a bit starved, but unhurt."

"Good." Adam closed his eyes and leaned into her slightly with a sigh. "I'll kill whoever lays an eye on him."

Midnight

Jaylyn woke up as something skidding along the ground, opening her eyes and squinting she saw her pocketknife a few feet away while Nick was outside the door looking around nervously and shifting from side to side. She moved carefully so she didn't wake up Adam before grabbing it and going over to meet him.
