The typical stakeout is never complete without a full box of doughnuts and coffee or in some cases alcohol in which this case applied. Jason exited the gas station with some fruity wine drink and some cigarettes for himself before we ventured off toward an area Jason knew quite well. Living here your entire lives I guess you would have to. Each corner would eventually become embedded in your mind no matter how many times you tried to shut out the thought...
As for if this place was where Vincent was-I wasn't sure. I lingered for some time before we noticed another car pull ahead. Crimson in color, it stood out among the more mundane and affordable middle-class cars. A single man came out but was then accompanied by another before Jason went to get out.
"Don't leave me out here." I scolded before he silently shut the door and looked back to me.
"With all due respect Adelaide, we won't know anything by staying in here and Vince would kill me if he knew you were to do something like this. I have to be the one to do this."
"No. Don't you think he'd be more pissed if he came to find out his submissive was held captive by the same people to took him? It's more understandable if we are together-plus-who would know? Only us..." I gave him a near puppy-dog pout before he nodded and I followed him as we walked. Expecting a more mafia type setting, I came to find it was an abandoned building lit with flashlights held by the unidentified males. Jason used his cell phone to light our path until we hid behind a nearly demolished wall that had become a great place to hear their echoed conversation.
"What do you want us to do with him now?" Another figure emerged-now three in total on the ground, and I watched each movement as Jason did as well.
"Keep him here, rough him up if you need to."
"That's not necessary, he is just begging to keep her safe..."
"Fool for love..." The other figure who emerged from the crimson car spoke before they exchanged something before leaving the building. We found a window in the abandoned building and saw how they exchanged drugs and money for weapons.
As we went to leave, my jeans caught on the edge of the platform that kept us hid and I fell backwards, hitting my head on the solid frame below what we hid upon. It was a miracle I didn't die on contact. Everything went black and I suddenly realized how the moment had become a near-death experience. I awoke some time later beside Lisa and Jason and saw how she glared at me then him then back at me.
"I can explain!" I said jumping up before a throbbing pain came from my head.
"You don't need to. Jase explained everything. Why didn't you tell me?"
"After the drug incident...I didn't want you to have anymore on your plate..."
"You're my best friend. You have so many problems I need a whole buffet! But you're completely worth it..." She said pulling me into a hug before Jace filled me in on what I had missed whilst unconscious;
"I followed the men while you were asleep but couldn't keep up with them. They sped ninety in a sixty-a miracle they didn't get pulled over. But at this rate-kidnapping a billionaire, it wouldn't surprise me if they have ties to the government somehow... As for you, we had taken you to a nurse friend of Lisa's and she explained how you had a serious concussion and if you became nauseous or anything of that kind, then to take you to the hospital."
"So how do you feel?" Lisa asked anxious before slowly moving from across from me to beside me, I sat up as she made herself comfortable.
"Did you find Vincent?"
They both shook their heads. "But Chase has called you a dozen times. You may want to call him." Lisa said before handing me my phone. As I moved away to call, Lisa came with me.
"Before you make the call, I just need to know something..." I nodded before she took a moment to put the words together. "Why are you with Chase if you love Vincent?"
"Because I'm not sure who I love..."
"If you're willing to risk the relationship with the other...I think the relationship you are risking is the one you don't love..."
"I have no idea what or who I want...I'm trying to figure it out..." And before the conversation could continue, Chase answered the other end of the phone. I decided I had to have an alibi and no matter what I said, Lisa would go along with it.
"Where the hell were you? You had me worried!"
I kept quiet as I realized it was harder than I thought to talk to him. Both despising him and feeling guilty over the circumstances.
"I wanted to apologize for taking the moment too far. The thing is, I just love you so damn much and I want to show you that, but I know what I did was wrong..."
I nodded and he chuckled almost as if he knew. "Come home my love." The name sounded foreign to me as I pictured him calling the bombshell barbie the same thing. I cringed before becoming angry.
"I just want to stay here."
"Where's here?" He asked in complete confusion. I looked around before deciding it was time to through a story his way.
"At Lisa's." In actuality, it was... As I was in the middle of the call, my phone beeped but I ignored it to find a believable story.
"Come home."
"I don't want to. See, I got a concussion-"
"What?!"
"We were moving some books and some fell onto me and hit me fairly hard. The doctors say I shouldn't move or anything-"
"I"ll come to you-"
"No. I don't want you to, do you understand?"
"Fine." The line went dead. I looked at my phone and saw missed call; Dom. My heart sank. He called me! He was alright! And I missed it! Now I loathed Chase even more in this moment. I lingered for some time before trying to call back, only getting his voicemail yet again. He would surely call again...hopefully...
