Saturday 7:55 pm

Mother walked through the row of school desks, letting her hand lightly graze the surface of each hand made cherry wood desk top.

“And you’re sure these are safe?” She asked Bryce the nurse. He nodded.

“Alright then class will start this Monday.” She said checking “Desks” off on her check list. Fall was heavily in session and some sort of education would do the kids some good. October Hill had one of the best education systems in the country. That was one of the only reasons why they where able to stay open all these years. She took a long scrutinizing look around the room.

There was a large red Persian rug with gold tassels at each end underneath her Coach pep-toed stilettos. The entire left wall of the room wasn’t a wall at all; it was made up of floor to ceiling glass panels that gave a beautiful view of the forest and its mighty mountains. The right wall was completely constructed of red bricks and high reaching book shelves. In the back of the room was a large fire place and bean bag chairs near by for casual relaxation. Mother checked these things off her list. She hummed lightly to herself as she stole a glance over her list toward Bryce. He was polishing the oak wood teachers’ desk at the head of the room. She studied him silently.

His brunette hair was short cut. He had plain eyes. He looked so… normal. But could Crystal have been right?

“Is something wrong?” Bryce asked noticing her prolonged starring.

“No,” Mother said but still she starred at him. He seemed so trustable.

“I have a new job for you Bryce,” Mother said. His eye brows rose in interest and surprise.

“From now on you work in the kitchen. Morning meals, lunch and dinner.” She said. He looked at her in bewilderment. His smug smile buried under an expression of surprise and potential protest.

“But ma’am I can’t cook.” He babbled quickly.

“No problem. You’re on clean up duty.” She told him. He wanted to scream at her his disapproval but it wasn’t worth the repercussions. Instead he bit his tongue and nodded. Mother was quite surprised by his willingness. She shook away Crystal’s accusations. It just couldn’t have been true. It just couldn’t.

After dinner was finished. Emberlynne made her way to her room with an enthusiastic Army trailing behind her.

“Omg, so wait how was the kiss? Screw that, where were you guys at today during free time? Do you like him?” Her mouth moved a mile a minute and Emberlynne tried desperately to tune her out as they walked through the mansion hallways to her room.

“Emmy your killing me, please answer me.” Army pleaded. Emberlynne sighed.

“We were in the forest today. He told me a story.” She half lied. Army squealed and clenched Emberlynne’s wrist for more.

“The kiss was nice I guess.” Emberlynne said. Army groaned.

“How nice? Was their tongue?” Her expression was so enthusiastic Emberlynne though Army had actually been the one that kissed Elijah.

“No tongue, god! I don’t even know why he kissed me.” Emmy exclaimed loudly.

“Do you like him?” Army asked. Emmy really had to think about that. Did she? Of course he was adorable and when he smiled the whole world stopped. And then she couldn’t get his voice out her mind. And the way he looked at her… Emberlynne felt a chill run down her spine. Yes. She liked him a lot more then she could admit to herself.
