The loud bass of guitar being played by Josh drowned out Elijah’s voice as he called For Joshes attention. It was a late Saturday night and Elijah had left Emmy as soon as she was asleep. He had a startling realization a couple of days back and he had been dying to talk to Josh. Lately though Josh had been pretty M.I.A.

Elijah flipped his annoying bangs out of the way for like the 80th time. He was wearing all his piercings’: the two in his lip, the one in his left eye brow and a silver ring curved around his left nostril. He was clad in baggy black denim jeans, a white V-neck tee underneath a black hoodie and black combat boots: the boots were new. He knew he would find Josh at the alternative, a night club mostly populated by the cities freaks and geeks.

He spotted Josh on stage playing with god knows who’s band. Some dude was screaming into a mike and another who needed a hair cut was playing the drums expertly. Elijah stood off in the back in order not to be noticed. He wasn’t really here to hang tonight with the awesome alive people. He was here to ask some questions. He had spent the remainder of the week with Emmy. Friday he took her on a joy ride. They “burrowed” Mother’s new Hummer and rode through the city. He figured mother would find out when she found her tank empty.

He couldn’t believe Emmy was his Emilia and even more than that, she was what kept him bound. She was the key. But he wouldn’t fathom killing her would he? Would it really be so selfish? She would be better off dead anyway…

Elijah shook his head at that thought. He couldn’t kill her. The betrayal would break her heart and he would feel it. But if he told her the truth…?

No, he couldn’t. She had already gotten too close to figuring out he’s a dead kid. It was too risky.

Josh’s guitar solo ended and the creepy skinny kid with too much make up on spoke into the mike at a normal volume.

“That was Strawberry swisher part 2 By DGD. Every body, give it uuup.” The dude said. The crowd erupted into applause. Elijah took this chance to make it up on stage.

“Hey everybody! We gotta house favorite here tonight, Elijah why don’t you take the mike?” The dude said. Elijah was just about to say something to Josh when he was interrupted.

“Nah man, I’m not gonna be here for long.” Elijah said. The crowd complained but Elijah ignored them. He tugged Josh off stage by his wrists, base guitar and all.

“Hey man what’s up?” Josh asked once Elijah had led them to the bar. There were a few scary looking guys serving martini’s behind the counter and a few stragglers near by but they were far too intertwined in there own matters to notice Elijah or Josh.

“Man where were you yesterday?” Elijah asked with an urgent expression. Josh shrugged. His eyes were bloodshot and Elijah could smell the marijuana on him.

“I been around. Dude, I just played through seven songs high as a kite,” He laughed carelessly. Elijah’s frown deepened.

“Dude, I don’t need you high. I have to ask you some things.” Elijah said.

“Aight, take the pole out your ass. What’s up?”

“This is,” he said snatching back the sleeves of his hoodie revealing the two black bands that appeared on his wrists two days ago.

“Holy shit you got them?! What are you bound to?” Josh asked sobering up.

“Emberlynne.”

“What? But you died like a million years ago; this chick was born sixteen years ago. It ain’t possible.” Josh said.

“That’s what I thought until I realized she’s Emilia’s reincarnate. The only way I can move on is if I kill her,” Elijah said. He swept his bang to the side with a frustrated look. Josh didn’t see a conflict at all.
