Emberlynne could feel the vibration of the music in her chest. The giant warehouse was dark with several multicolor lights flashing randomly about and a multitude of bodies swayed to the beat of an unknown song. The entire scene made Emberlynne’s heart race for she had only read about such things. They had walked maybe half a mile before they met up with a taxi and rode the rest of the way. Emberlynne had walked between a silent Elijah and a curious Hart all the way to the taxi. Army and Josh had trailed behind them flirting and doing other teenage whatnots.
Emberlynne griped on to her bag and glanced out of the corner of her eye up at Elijah who was calmly bobbing his head to the music. On her other side Hart was looking a little apprehensive.
“Isn’t this awesome?” Emberlynne found Army saying in her ear.
“What?” Emberlynne yelled at her over the loud bass of the music
“Never mind! Hey, Josh wants to dance.” Army shouted back.
“I can’t believe Josh pissed his pants!” Emberlynne gasped as her hands flew over her mouth in bewilderment. Elijah cracked up laughing beside her. Hart looked confused.
“Why would Josh want a second chance?”Hart asked. Elijah laughed harder. He thought they were just hilarious.
“I did what? - NO I WANT TO DANCE!!” Josh yelled at them.
“Ohhh.” Emberlynne said feeling a little stupid. Army caught hold of Josh’s wrist and tugged him through the crowd of people.
“Hey you want a drink?” Elijah asked Emmy once they were alone.
“Sure,” Hart answered for her. Emberlynne made a sour expression at Hart but it was pointless in the dark. Elijah guided them to a bar. A bald kid with more piercing than Elijah was working there but he couldn’t have been old enough to even legally purchase alcohol. He set his dark eyes on Emberlynne and smiled.
“Well can I help you?” He said looking a little tipsy himself. Emberlynne just observed him. She didn’t want anything that he had his paws on. Hart stepped in front of Emberlynne blocking her from his view.
“No, but you can help me, uh I want… lets see…” Hart began to take his sweet time as he observed his choices.
“Is he always this annoying?” Elijah asked Emberlynne quietly. Emmy just shrugged in exasperation keeping her eyes carefully trained on Hart. Elijah studied her for a moment. He wouldn’t have told her but he favored her much more in that dress. Emberlynne caught him staring.
“What?” she asked nervously. He just shook his head but still didn’t avert his scrutinizing gaze. Emberlynne felt odd. After that kiss it was electrifying to be around Elijah. But she had cheated on Hart… technically. And she really didn’t know who Elijah was. He was beautiful and mysterious but she couldn’t help but wonder what landed him in October Hill in the first place.
Hart got their drinks and handed them out. Emberlynne took a sip and the hard fruity alcohol burned the inside of her throat. It was a good burn though. She knew she was doing something bad. And Emmy was quite fond of doing bad. Elijah took a sip too.
“Whoa that’s good.” He said looking more vibrant by the minute.
“It’s a shame Guppy’s going to miss the party.” Elijah said so low Emberlynne thought she was just being paranoid. Emberlynne felt her fingers grip her bag and suddenly it seemed to weight a thousand pounds. Of course she had smuggled Guppy with her. And Elijah knew just as well as she did that Guppy was safely tucked away inside her bag. Emberlynne took another sip as if she hadn’t heard Elijah. Hart finished his drink quickly.
