I watched Drew’s chest rise and fall slowly. His eyes moving behind his closed lids. He was lying still on the hospital bed. It was my fault all my fault.

*FLASHBACK*

We were being childish standing on the swings seeing how high we could go and then jump off. We were so high it felt like we could touch the sky. We counted to three and jumped. I landed and ended up rolling a few metres but I got up and felt fine, achey but fine. I looked back and saw Drew lying there. Face down. I felt my heart speed up. “Drew? Drew can you hear me?” oh god please be alright. I was now kneeling beside his head brushing back his fringe. I could already see a large bruise forming on his forehead. Panicking I pulled out my phone and called Laurence who immediately called an ambulance.

*END FLASHBACK*

I brushed my fingers across his cool cheek before grabbing his other hand in my own. I squeezed his fingers. I had been here since he was admitted two days ago. I hadn’t left his side apart from to go to the toilet and I would only go then if one of the guys were here, I didn’t want him waking up without one of us here. The guys had brought me food. They were as distraught as me. Laurence walked in and pulled me into a hug “It’s not your fault, okay. He wouldn’t want you beating yourself up over it” I buried my face in his shoulder feeling the tears stinging at the back of my eyes. I could still feel Drew’s hand in mine. I pulled away and sat back down. “Here, I brought you food.” I took the container and placed it on the table beside me. I wasn’t hungry. I heard Laurence sigh. The guys were worried about me as well. I carefully held both of Drew’s hands in mine warming the cool flesh. I don’t know how long we sat like that. In silence. Laurence’s deep voice startled me. “Shane I’m going to get coffee want one? Also eat something, please.” I looked over at the untouched food and nodded.

Laurence

I left the room, the deafening silence was starting to become unbearable. I stood waiting for the machine to finish when I felt someone crash into me. A small voice spoke up “Sorry, I’m such a clutz, tripping over my own feet.” I looked down at her. Her hair was the first thing I noticed it was brightly coloured. Her large green eyes were ringed in thick black eyeliner. I laughed. I couldn’t help it. She was wearing one of our band tops. “Oh my Dorran I would recognise that laugh anywhere. Youre Laurence Beveridge!!” I mock bowed “At your service Miss…?” she giggled at me “Dover. But you can call me Eileen”

“Eileen Dover, what an interesting name” I smiled. “Weird parents.” She muttered. I laughed again. “So Bevers, what are you doing here?” I was amazed so many of our fans were shy around us. “Drew had an accident” she gasped “Oh no, is he alright.” I felt my face fall and before I knew it her arms were around me. “Please don’t cry, it was a stupid question I’m sorry.”  I returned the hug “It’s not your fault it was no ones, Barrone’s blaming himself as well and it wasn’t stupid it was a natural reaction, he’s fine as far as were aware he’s been out cold since Monday.” She pulled away and nodded. “By the way, like the t-shirt.” I winked. She looked down and her face started to blaze crimson.

Laurence had been gone a while. I had tried to eat but I felt sick. I had gone back to holding Drew’s hand and studying his face. Leaning forward I placed my forehead on his hand. I cried. I couldn’t help it. My best friend was lying here all because of me. “I’m so sorry Drew, it was all my fault.” I sobbed silently into his hand. I stilled. I wasn’t sure if I felt that. It felt like someone touch my head. “Shane what have I told you about blaming yourself, don’t not everything is your fault.” I bolted straight up. He was lying there smiling at me. I felt my tears continue to run down my face but felt my lips form a smile (or at least what I hoped was a smile and not some failed Drew derp). I launched myself at him. forgetting momentarily why he was in here. “Ow, hey there!”

Drew

Shane was hugging my middle like his life depended on it. I heard a giggle from the doorway and looked up. I saw Laurence stood there holding 2 cups of what smelt like coffee. I then spotted the source of the giggle and saw a face framed by large pink hair and two green eyes peering out from around Laurence. “Hiya Bevers , who’s your friend?” I smiled at her and watched her blush. Awww. Shane got off me and wandered over to the chair he had previously occupied and picked up a box of food. She stepped out from around him and put her hand out, “Eileen, Eileen Dover.” She was wearing one of Barrone’s most recent designs. Smiling I placed my hand in hers. And then abruptly pulled her in for a hug. She squealed. “I don’t do handshakes” I told her when she finally regained her feet. She grinned back at me. I looked at Barrone eating. He looked thinner. “Shane please tell me you’ve been eating”. He looked down guiltily before replying “Yes I have the guys have brought me stuff.” Laurence sighed “No you haven’t, we brought you stuff but you never really touched it just played with it.” I looked back over at Shane who was grinning sheepishly at me. I shook my head “What am I gonna do with you.” I shuffled over and patted the space beside me. I watched from the corner of my eye as Laurence and Eileen left the room.

Laurence

Looking at Drew I realised he wanted to talk to Shane so I left with Eileen to track down a doctor. I had been talking to her earlier and invited her to meet the Timids. She was so excited but knew what was happening. We were over by the nurses’ station which was busy. Eileen was rocking on her feet looking around. I smiled. She was so cute. Suddenly she came to a halt in her rocking and her eyes widened at something behind me. I frowned and curious I turned. Kier and Luke were stood someway behind me. I smiled at them. No I didn’t smile, I grinned. Kier understood and immediately darted down the hall to find The Timids. I looked back at Eileen she was still staring in awe at the tall drummer behind me. “So Bevers I guess Drew’s awake then?” I nodded at Luke’s question. Eileen was still staring. I chucked. It wasn’t every day your favourite band was around you.

Luke

There was a small girl stood next to Laurence wearing our band merch and staring straight at me. I smiled at her. “Hi, I guess you know who I am” she nodded still not blinking, damn she’s probably beat Bevers in a staring contest. “Right Bevers once you and your new friend are ready I will meet you in Drew’s room” he nodded. I looked back at the small girl who looked at Laurence and blushed. Awwww how adorable. I then noticed Laurence hadn’t stopped looking at her. Double awwww!

Laurence

We finally got a doctor and on the way back to the rest of the band Eileen told me she was here as her older sister was having a baby. Just as we walked around the corner a man with greying hair called Eileen over. I stood waiting. After a few minutes she came back over. “That was my dad he says I have to go now. But if you want I could, I could…” she trailed off. I knew exactly what to do. So being the prepared man I am pulled out a sharpie and grabbed her hand quickly scribbling my number and name on it. “I understand, if you ever need someone to talk to I’m here.” She looked down at her arm and back at me before smiling. I pulled her in for a hug. “See you later” she smiled again before wandering off.

Drew

Laurence walked back in a small smile and slight blush on his face. Before I could say anything Kier butted in “So Bevers who was the girl?” he winked. “Eileen”. He blushed again. Awwww how adorable our Panda had found someone.

The doctor had said as long as he took it carefully Drew would be fine. So it was just us now. I was stood waiting for him to emerge from the bathroom. He finally reappeared about half an hour after entering his hair was sticking out in all directions. I smiled and walked over carefully pulling him in for a hug. He returned it and as he pulled away kissed me. “I love you Shane, please stop blaming yourself.” I nodded “I love you too come on lets go”. He grabbed my hand and skipped out.

Laurence

I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling when I heard my phone vibrate from the table next to me. I picked it up and smiled before pulling my jacket on and waving at the guys. Those words were imprinted in my mind.

Hey wanna get a coffee? Eileen xx
