Drew
I pulled my jacket tighter around my body. I sighed and looked at my feet. I wasn’t looking forward to this sure I told the guys I was up for tonight but the truth was I would rather be at home snuggled up next to Shane watching some cheesy action film. Not here in the middle of a local playing field amongst a group of hyped up on sugar children, stroppy teenagers and complaining adults. I peered over at my timid. He was bouncing as he walked his eyes shining with glee. I looked back over towards the slowly growing group of people near the middle of the field. I could hear Laurence and Luke mumbling to each other. Kier was shuffling along beside them humming tiredly and staring at the sky. “I’m so excited Wooly aren’t you?” Shane appeared beside me grinning like a Cheshire cat. I smiled and nodded “Sure am” I lied. He grinned and grabbed my arm “I haven’t been to a fireworks display in years I’m so glad Kier spotted that poster and suggested we go.” I smiled again and slipped my hand out of my pocket and into his. “So am I” ‘No I’m not’ I thought to myself. “I love everything about them, the bright colours, the smell, the anticipation but most of all I love the noises. The way your heart stutters when the explode into different shades of red, green, yellow and purple. Don’t you?” I nodded “Yeah”

I skipped to a gap near the front with Drew in tow. Checking my watch it showed we had about two minutes until the show started. “Oh my God Drew it’s almost time” he smiled half heartedly and tried to move further away from the fence that had been put up. I cocked my head and furrowed my brows “Whats wrong Drew?” he looked at me and smiled “Nothing I’m just cold” he said pulling his hand out of mine and shoving both of his into his pockets. I rolled my eyes “I told you to put more layers on,” I opened my arms “Come here.” He stepped forward and I engulfed him into a hug. I rested my head on his and smiled at the warmth now radiating between us. Everyone around us started chattering with excitement I looked around and saw that two men were getting ready to start lighting the fireworks. “Drew look it’s starting” I twisted him around and stood behind him with my arms wrapped around his waist.

I started trembling with fear at the thought of what was about to happen. I tried to escape Shanes arms but he just squeezed me tighter as the first rocket shot into the sky and exploded into a shower of colour. I could already feel the tears filling my eyes making my sight nothing but a blurry mess. I twisted around and buried my head in Shane’s chest letting the tears overflow as more and more fireworks were set off.

Drew was shaking but from the way he was trying to desperately bury his head in my chest i guessed it wasn’t from the cold. “Drew? Drew whats wrong?” I asked him. He pulled his face away and looked up at me tears streaming down his face a look of terror upon it. He opened his mouth to answer but ducked back into my chest as another rocket went off. Realisation dawned upon me. He hated the loud bangs. I unwrapped my arms from around him and pulled off my earmuffs and hat placing them both on his head. “Is that any better?” I asked as another firework squealed its way into the darkness its path illuminated by a white tail. He pulled his head away from my chest again and looked at me. This time he didn’t jump as a golden explosion went off high in the air showering the sky around us with fading stars. A smile spread across his face and replaced the terror on it with relief. I wiped the tears that were sliding down his face off and turned him around. I ended up missing most of the display because I was too busy being enraptured by the look of pure excitement shining on his face. When the display finished everyone started to disperse. It was only now that I realised we were the opposite end of the field from the rest of the guys. We found them Luke and Laurence, a sleeping Kier on his back, were chatting quietly as they waited for us to join them. As we travelled back towards home i couldn’t help but think that that was the best fireworks display I had ever been to.
AN: so I'm so sorry I haven’t updated in a couple of weeks vie been busy so have this oneshot. The idea came about after I went to a local display with my freaks and the freak in training (well one of them suggested it as a oneshot and I felt the need to write this at 3 in the morning instead of doing my coursework which I’m mega behind on (although I’m confused as fuck about it)) let me know what you think Wooly xx
