The thought hit me like a bucket of ice water as I awoke. Wait. Why?! Was My own subconscious blaming me for an earthquake? What was so wrong with me that everyone in town seemed to hate me? And what was more, why my own subconscious?! I gripped my forehead with my white and shaking hands, trying desperately to see what my problem was. I collapsed to the floor, my legs unable to hold my weight. I must have passed out because for one second that seemed like an eternity all I saw was black, and then I was awake again.
But where was I? It was definitely outside, with rolling hills and beautiful unspoilt grass, but it wasn't my cave. That much was certain. I slowly pushed myself up from the ground and looked all around me. I felt the presence of someone watching me, but no one was around.
"Hello?" My voice echoed a few times.
Silence.
"Is anyone there?"
Silence, then, so quietly I almost didn't hear it,
"Hello, Rock".
"Who are you? How do you know my name?" Thousands of scenes rushed through my mind. Alien abductions, ghostly hallucinations and kidnappings!
"Don't panic Rock. My name is Boulder. And I know your name because I have chosen you."
"Chosen me? What does that even mean?!"
"I'm afraid our time is up. We will talk soon. Now it is time for you to awaken."
