Chapter 6: Meeting Ash

I stepped through the brick wall and entered into a large dining area. It was full of people.

"What kind of Prison is this?!" I asked.

They all laughed.  It didn't look at all like a prison. It looked like a school of some kind. I couldn't figure it out. None of these people were going to sort me out, I knew. They just sat there, laughing. A dark figure entered the room. He cleared his throat and everyone fell silent at once and swung to look at him.

Now, it resembled a prison.

"Lake, This is not a prison, this is a school for special teens. I think you know what I mean by special." The voice said and stepped into the light.

He looked like an ordinary headmaster. But the way he said 'special' told me he was talking about my powers.

"Everyone, please welcome our newest student, Lake!" Said the headmaster, "Ash, this is your first team mate! Lake, feel free to sit with him."

Usually I would be careful about sitting next to someone I didn't know at all. But he had such a kind face, and I felt some kind of connection to him that I couldn't understand.

I'd only just met him, so why did I already feel like I knew him? The headmaster was speaking again, something about teams of 4 with different elemental powers, but I wasn't really listening.

It seemed odd, that everyone except me and Ash couldn't take their eyes off the headmaster while he spoke. I shook it off. They probably just respected him.

Then, everyone was moving.

"Wake up, sleepy head!" Ash said, laughing, "Don't worry, I was the same when I got here. I'm used to it now though."

I nodded.

He beckoned me to follow him and he led me down a corridor.

"I'm so glad your here! I've had to train on my own for a week while everyone else had partners!"

I was completely dazed.

"Train?" I asked.

"Yep! You probably did something extreme with your powers before coming here, didn't you? I burnt my school down. Not something I'm proud of. We're here to train our powers so it doesn't happen again.

What did you do?"
