You found me when no one else was lookin'. How did you know just where I would be? Yeah, you broke through all of my confusion. The ups and the downs and you still didn't leave. I guess that you saw what nobody could see. You found me. You found me -- Kelly Clarkson – You Found Me
School as always was hectic. Homework played a huge role in my life. Gradually the death of Nat wasn’t becoming the first thing on everyone’s tongues, especially after the football win in the semifinal. The party was all the talk and Nat laid forgotten to most.
Except myself, I was constantly waking up in tears and screams as I relived that night over and over. Though the dream was a little different to how I remembered it, downstairs during the party during my dreams was different. Everyone was dancing as usual except Danni was there, she was in the middle of the dance floor, a vision of beauty, yet everyone looked at her in fear. In the dream I watched on with fear also but there was rage and curiosity there too. I didn’t know why but I knew I was telling myself I was forgetting something. I could just feel it. This dream meant something.
“This is just ridiculous!” Gabs cried making me jump as she slammed her bag down on the table. I glanced up at her under my hair raising a questioning brow “They still have no lead.” She extended. “Not a thing!” my anger fumed at her answer.
“Who told you?” I asked trying to keep the mood casual and simmer the anger.
“Nat’s parents.” She said.
I stiffened instantly “T-t-they rang you?” I asked already wounded, they rang her but not me, did they blame me?
“No I ran into them down at the market last night.”She said as she pulled out her lunch.
“Oh how did that go?” I asked my shoulders slightly falling.
She sighed sadly “They’re coping you know? At least trying, better than I’d imagine. Nat’s mum, Jan, well she said that she’s been meaning to contact us.” I swallowed harshly; I knew I shouldn’t have eaten. “Don’t worry she didn’t seem mad, to be honest I have a feeling she suspected N- she was planning something like a party.” Gab said
I cleared my throat roughly “So when are we gathering?” I asked fighting for control.
Gab sighed “After or maybe a bit before the funeral. Which will be after the case is resolved, you know, cause of forensics or whatever.” She said brushing it off. “It’s just freaky knowing that creeps out there.” She murmured.
It was pure silence for a while as we sat outside in the sun and breeze watching the cars go by and other teens gossip, flirt and play.
“Oh did you hear the latest goss?” Gab asked her usual spark gone, usually gossip lightened her. I shrugged tugging on the straw to my fruit box. “Maisy, you know, the one that works at the chemist?” gab began. I nodded knowing Maisy, she was the girl that always looked tired, a beautiful zombie. “Well she overheard Danny talking to the girls about how her and her boyfriend, you know that guy that goes to the catholic school? About how they haven’t slept together as he doesn’t want to.”
I spluttered on my straw “He said no?” I cried amazed. They’d been dating for nearly six months or so, and it was Danni, the ‘it’ girl known for getting everything she wanted, and the girl who apparently recently had a pregnancy scare, everyone even called her a slut. Yet a virgin? Or she hadn’t slept with her boyfriend? Was she doing the naughty behind his back?
I rolled my eyes Gab nodded knowing all my thoughts “Drama.” I muttered.
“We don’t know the guy though,” She allowed “and he does go to a catholic school. Maybe he’s pretty strict.”
