Jake's POV

After pacing in front of the Alpha's office debating on if this was a good idea, I knocked on the door. The Alpha's gruff voice called for me to come in. He had been thinking of what those shadow shifters had done to his family again, I could see the haunted gleam in his eyes. He tried to find and kill as many of the shadow shifters before they shifted, but he had failed at getting them all and he blamed himself for anything bad that happened because of them. Hatred didn't begin to cover what he felt for them, and I didn't blame him for how he felt, they had torn apart his entire family.

"What do you need Beta Jake?"

"I came to talk about your sister's new daughter," he perked up upon hearing about his sister. He loved her so dearly and wanted to keep her safe from the monsters that took their parents. He even went as far as to put a protection spell around her family to keep her safe from them.

"Yes, what about her?"

"She may not be fully human, as you are aware of there are shifters that don't shift or show signs until their seventeenth birthday. She knows what we are, but I don't believe your sister knows of her knowledge on us. She has a trainer that is a wolf, she has been going to a man named Derek from the Shinning River Pack. He has a gym in neutral territory that she has a membership with,"

"She could be a danger? Is that what you are telling me? And she is no shifter, I have talked to her previous parents and they say she is 100% human. Now her going to this Derek guy is not a bad thing, a human needs to know how to defend herself from the teen wolves as we both know very well. Now unless you have proof she is dangerous you are dismissed." He was just going to wave off this information? Has he gone mad? Not a threat? Good for a human to know how to defend herself against wolves? I had to tell him. But he will get nervous about how his sister will react. A nervous Alpha is never good.

"Well, you see, um. I may or may not have had three of my top trainees try and get her to fight them," I started to scratch the back of my neck nervously. The Alpha's head shot up from the papers he was reading and gave me an incredulous look.

"Please tell me they didn't hurt her. Do you know what my sister would do to me if her daughter got hurt?"

"They had specific instructions to not hurt her. But she just brushed them off the first two times, which was a good sign. Then on the third day she snapped and took all three on at the same time. Alpha, she made my top three students drop like flies. I didn't want to tell her mother, but I thought it would be good to let you know."

"It's good you did. You know I have to tell my sister now right? Keep an eye on the girl, make sure she is no danger to us. From what her previous parents have told me she likes to make herself stronger and is very loyal," I nodded my head and walked out of the room. I felt better after telling him the information, but had a bad feeling of how Marcella's mother would take it. How would she react to knowing it was me that put her daughter on the Alpha's radar?

Then I thought of something the Alpha had said about the girl's family that wasn't right. How would they know if she was human or shifter? Something didn't add up, what were they not telling us? No shifter, vampire, or fairy could tell if someone was human. There's only one species that could tell that, and they were guards at the royal castle. The phoenix have always been able to see what is truly inside a person's heart. They could tell if you had an evil intent or were led astray, but they could also tell if someone was a human or shifter. There is only one phoenix that would willingly leave or bring someone into the castle to test this, I had to speak with Maxwell. Maxwell was a good friend to the pack, and head guard at the castle. He often visited packs to make sure the King's orders were followed and carried out, maybe one of her families caught him in enough time to tell. I called his training center, where he is if not with the royal family, knowing he'd be there.
