~~~Marcella's POV~~~
The weekend was over, but that only meant I had to go to school. I still hated the place, the wolves thought themselves superior to everyone else. It annoyed me that the guys let the school sluts hang off their arms like accessories. They were the lap dogs of the school, quite literally. They made me sick, and the shadows have helped me to hide. I didn't want to be seen by them, I didn't want their gazes to bore into me when I walked past them.
I was walking down the hall to my AP Literary class when I saw Trent, the one guy that wasn't a jerk but still had his own array of lap dogs. It would seem that today he was entertaining Missy, a school slut if you hadn't guessed. I stayed in the shadows but noticed a spark of jealousy running through my entire being. I didn't know why, but seeing her making out with him made my stomach churn with a deep hatred. I didn't understand it at all, the closer it got to my birthday the more my life changed.
felt a pull towards him, and there was only one thing that could mean. I had found the one thing everyone longed for, a person made just for me, my mate. Silly as it sounds it's the only explanation for how I felt. Trent had just turned eighteen so it would make sense that the bond had just found me. Then I noticed something, his gaze was on where I was but he never pulled away from Missy.
I couldn't take it anymore, my mate kissing another when he knew I existed. I slowly moved completely into the shadows and escaped from the school, trying to get air into my aching lungs. As cliché as this sounds, my heart broke at the rejection. I wouldn't let anyone know my pain though, I could hide it under a cold face. No one knew me enough to know there was a change, no one would notice the heart break that made me want to cry and laugh at the same time.
The bond would eventually make me go insane if my mate never accepted me. I walked home hidden in the shadows, my necklace glowing a bright golden color. I knew my shadow would appear soon, but I couldn't let this pain get to me.
"You know you can't hide your emotions from the one sworn to protect you." A calming voice soothed from behind me.
"One can try, I'm fine."
"I know that one is a lie, I can feel your pain. I know what happened, and I know it wasn't all it looked to be."
"My mate kissing another woman knowing full well I was right there? Seems pretty plain to me."
"And we will take care of things, but right now you need to calm down unless you want your birthday gift to come early."
"What gift?"
"The one you aren't ready for yet. Now, I'm going to take you home so you can relax." With that he picked me up and teleported us to my room.
"Does anyone want me? I mean if the one person that's supposedly made for me doesn't want me why would anyone?"
"You really need to calm down, you aren't ready for the gift."
"What gift? I don't even want my birthday to come, it just reminds me of how I was given away before my first one." I felt a heat rising in me at the anger and sadness waging a war inside of me. I didn't care if I was going insane, I just wanted this day to be over.
"You will find out if you don't calm down, and I promise you will not like it."
"You going to tell me that even you have given up on me?" Now I was be a bit irrational.
"No, but I will have to endure your gift along with you if you don't calm down."
"I don't care, I'm going to bed now." I lied down in bed and turned towards the wall. I felt a shift of the air and knew he had gone.
