Tate's POV

"So what did you pick up, anything?" He seemed desperate to know if she was a threat, and if he would survive.

"She's human, just like Maxwell told you." I couldn't let him know what she was, not yet. I felt bad for her, she would have to shift twice in one go. Her kind have to have someone there to give their pain to so they can survive it all, and since I'm the only one who knows it will be me taking most of her pain.

"You're sure? Not even a small trace of something?"

"Positive dad, you can breathe. Macy won't kill you now, maybe,"

"Funny, I'm just glad we don't have to go through Macy losing another child. She didn't do well last time." I knew he had felt her heart break, everyone had. Her last child had tried to kill her to get back to her own pack. Macy had locked herself in a room for a month, not eating or sleeping. She still blames herself for what happened to the poor girl.

"Well, I'm sure Marcella and I are going to be great friends. I feel like we bonded over that fight," I laughed.

"I still can't believe you let a girl beat you."

"I had to get physical contact somehow, I figured why not let her tackle me. I knew she would go for my throat with her arm."

"Excuses get you nowhere in life son."

"I have to do some homework, and then I need sleep."

"You need a shower." I shoved his hand away from my hair, stopping him from messing with it any further. I could see the relief in his eyes as we parted, knowing I had just saved him a headache and injuries from Macy. He knew what would have happened if she had been a shifter of any kind, Alpha would be forced to either kick her out or make her submit willingly. I could tell she wouldn't do the latter of the two so that left only one option for her now. She would have to tell the Alpha after she shifted that she was no threat, whether he believes her or not is a mystery to me.

"Oh, one more thing. Don't hang out with the Shinning River pups, one of their members attacked Marcella."

"To my knowledge you weren't on patrol, how do you know that?"

"One of the boys were injured from a training accident, I filled in for them. I was on the West side of our territory, I heard the growls and Marcella."

"How did she walk away without a scratch?"

"Her necklace alerted the clan of shadows that is protecting her. I decided not to tell Alpha they were that close to the boundaries, and decided they could protect her if anyone could."

"Well I'm glad they stepped in, maybe if Alpha knew he would have a better view on them."

"You and I both know he wouldn't, he would only throw Marcella out of pack boundaries. He doesn't trust them or their motives."

"One could hope though." I walked away up to my room thinking of how the Alpha is going to react. I had to lock away these thoughts so they didn't leak into the pack link. The Alpha would kill her before she could turn seventeen and shift, he wouldn't even blink. That would destroy Macy, and he would blame that on the shadow hunters as well. There would be no one to support him then, after killing his own niece. The pack would start to question his sanity and leadership, and if he was going to be like his father. They would force him out of the Alpha title, ban him, and find a new one. Though they wouldn't find one before another pack took the advantage and attacked our pack. The Alpha could not know for another week, not until she shifts.
