Marcella's POV

It's been a week since John almost found out about my secret. His wolf knew, but I didn't need to worry about him. My worries lie in John finding out. There was also something worrying me, I needed a trainer. I needed Derek back, I had to find him and fix things. I Grabbed my pendant My attention was drawn over to the mirror on my wall. The light that should have been reflecting off the mirror was not reflecting.

Walking over to it I saw Death standing next to the image of me. I knew he was using the mirror as a door way, though I don't know for what. He had told me that he wouldn't talk to me unless it was absolutely necessary. I waited for him to talk, but it seemed he was waiting on the same thing. He reached out and moved my hair away from my shoulder, revealing the right side of my neck in the reflection. He gripped my throat and I felt his fingers dig into my skin, my air getting cut off. I couldn't move at all to try and claw off the invisible force that was slowly killing me. I felt the clan's panic, saw some appear and try to pull me away from the mirror but I couldn't move. Death had me in his grasp, keeping me in place. I saw the dark spots appearing at the sides of my vision. I knew it wouldn't be long before I passed out. I felt my body drop, the darkness pull me under, and the blissful numbness that followed.

"God, took you long enough, you shadows, so hard to put under." I turned to find Death holding his hand out to me. I took it, accepting his help to stand.

"Did you really have to choke me until I passed out?"

"The mirror didn't work, and my normal ways don't work on your people. Besides we need to talk about what's about to happen."

"what is so important you had to choke me until I passed out?!"

"I had to give you your gift, but I can't tell you what it is. I'm not even sure I know what it is, but my sister told me to give it to you."

"Your sister? You have a sister?" I knew there was an opposite of Death, but I didn't know it was his sister.

"Why does everyone question that? Yes I have a sister, she wanted me to give you a gift and we are running out of time before your people revive you from the sleep I put you in."

"Strangled you mean."

"Yes, anyways, this might hurt just a bit." A phoenix burst from his outstretched hand, its claws stretched out. I felt each claw burn its way through my chest, felt as it wrapped itself around me, burning my entire body. My scream echoed around the blackness that surrounded me, every breath felt like glass in my lungs. I distantly heard voices that sounded like whispers through my screams, and then it was all gone. The phoenix melted away, and with it the pain. My breathing still felt like glass shredding my lungs and the voices becoming my new source of pain. I felt hands searing my skin, and then a slap to my face.

I sat up and looked around, glaring at the person who had slapped me. It had been my guardian before I was a shadow. I looked around the room to see my mate, my parents, and my brother standing in my room. I was still lying on the ground in front of my mirror.

"Was slapping me really necessary?"

"You weren't waking up and my healing wasn't working." He shrugged looking down at me amused. My skin still stung and my breathing felt like glass, but did he have to slap me?

"I was fine."

"You weren't breathing!" This was my mate, he sounded angry but he looked worried. I reached up and touched his cheek smiling. I knew his wolf needed to be calmed, and physical touches helped with that.

"I am fine my love. I was just speaking to a friend." It was then that I noticed four guards at the door. I stood up slowly and went over to the window. There were guards outside of the house as well. I turned to find Macy standing with a sad smile on her face. I didn't know what was going on, but I had a good idea about it.

"We were coming in to tell you about the new guards being put around our house and found you on the floor not breathing. And then Hamlan showed up and the guards reported the shadow trying to help you. John knows dear that we are peaceful with the shadows." Macy started to cry as she explained this to me. I was stunned about what he did, to his own family. My brother continued where Macy left off.

"The entire pack has heard about it. He won't let Macy anywhere near him, he has ordered his guards to see us as a threat. He has disowned Macy as his sister and therefore us as his family. Said he was disgusted with how we treated the shadows." I looked at Hamlan, who had a blank face watching the guards closely. He had revealed himself to the wolves, but I couldn't blame this on him. He had done it to save me, that's what his job is, to protect me.

"I need to speak to John about this, how are getting contact with him?" I was angry that he would do this, but I sounded calm.

"They don't allow us to speak to him. He only gives them orders and disregards us." My brother looked beyond angry t how his mother was being treated. I knew he wanted to fight John for doing this to Macy.

"Don't worry brother, everything will be as it should soon. I am not a wolf, he cannot control me. I will do something about this, besides how long will it be before he realizes he is turning into his father. It is not a person or thing that turns you on your own family, it is fear and ignorance," I looked to the guards at the door, "and you can tell him I said that too, though I know you tell him everything I said."

"Marcella! Just because he is doing this does not mean he his turning into our father. Don't you bring him into this. My brother will realize this is all silly and forget about it." Macy was looking at me and I could see she believed it. I just nodded at her and let my brother coax her out of the room and past the guards. It broke my heart to see her like this, and to see the guards following them like they would prisoners. I looked to the growing number of shadows standing in my room.

"We need a plan if things go bad. I need to know you protect them over me. I can't die but they can, I don't want them hurt, understand me?" I saw numerous nods, some seemed reluctant though. I saw my birth family come out of the shadows as well.

"We need to get you out of here Marcella, it's simply too dangerous. I will not have you putting yourself in danger's way for these people." It was my father who said this.

"Would run if it were your family? Tell me father, would you do the same if it was me in trouble. Would you make mom run with you and my brother just because it got dangerous? I don't think you would, and I refuse to abandon this family when they need me, need us."

"You will make a great leader one day, but for now there will always be a shadow guard around you, keeping an eye on you." I consented with this one thing as it would help with my plan later on. For the next four hours we made a plan of what to do if this all went bad.
