Nobody Knew

Chapter 1

"Holly!  Holly come on we're ganna be late!"  My older brother, Nick, yelled at me from downstairs.

I hurry to get up and walk over to my closet.  I quickly grab a pair of jeans and a black tee shirt.   Then I grab one of my flannel shirts.

Then I rush down the stairs, grabbing my shoes and backpack that were at the base of the stairs, and run to the door.

I love Nick, he is my everything.  He is never ashamed of me and lets me tag along.  He is not just my brother but my friend and tutor and mentor and parent.  I love him.

Once I'm out of the door, Nick closes it and locks it, shoving the key into his pocket.  We walk the rest of the way to his car in silence.

Nick always drives me to school, I'm close to my license though.  He drives a red Ford pickup truck.  I really like the car.

Once we get in the car Nick turns to me.

"Everything okay squirt?"  He asks me.

I love his pet name for me.  It makes me feel special.

I nod. "Always have been, always will be.  What about you?"  I ask.

He gives me one of his smiles.

"Amazing as always."

I wish I knew he was lying and that the smile was fake.

Anyways, then he starts the car and drives to our school.

We both went to our local high school, Fairview High.  Nick was part of the school's football team and I part of nothing.  I really just went to school for schooling and nothing else.

We talk about his football season, about his game tonight, and about school in general.  I love how he doesn't always talk about his stuff, but about mine too.

When we get to school, Nick turns off the car and pockets the key.  I grab my backpack and am about to exit the car when Nick grabs my arm.

"Remember to be you and that if anyone picks on you to tell me, okay?"  He says.  I don't think too much about it he does stuff like this sometimes.

"Deal.  Love you Nick, see you after school."  I say then exit the car, heading over to where my friends and I meet.

I only have 3 friends; Cat, Mary and Will.  They are all great.

Cat is quiet and shy but is super nice.  She is gentle, but also broken and scared.  Her long brown hair is always wavy and worn down.  She loves to dance and is very smart.

Mary is beautiful, smart, funny, and special.  She loves dancing and music.  She is perfect.  Also did I mention that she is bisexual, because she is.

Will is funny, a genius, quiet, and introverted.  He loves music, especially playing since he plays the piano and clarinet, and wearing his bow ties.  Also he is gay.

But these are my friends, and I love them.

Anyways, I walk over to where my friends are standing.  We stand under an oak tree that is equidistant from all our lockers.

"Holly!"  Mary yells when she sees me. 

I just smile and wave.

"Hey Mary.  Hi Cat.  Hello Will."  I say when I get under the tree.  I walk to the trunk and put my bag down on the ground and then go join the circle of us 4.

We did this everyday.  It was routine and I liked it.

Suddenly someone clears their throat and we all turn to look at who.

Standing before us was a girl of average height with big brown eyes and gorgeous brown hair.  She was wearing jeans and a blue and red flannel over a tank top.  She looked a bit lost.

"Hi, I'm Luna.  I'm new here.  Can you direct me to the office?"  She says.

Mary gives her instructions and then she leaves. 

Then I see Nick running towards us at a jog.  He stops when he reaches our circle.

"Hello!"  He says with a smile.

"Hi Nick!"  Will says.

"Hey Nick!"  Mary says.

"Hello Nick!"  Cat says.

They all know and like Nick.  He is a hard person to not like.

"How would you guys like to go to a party?"  He asks with a crooked smile.
