Nobody Knew

Chapter 10

Eventually we left the bathroom, well we left once I regained my courage.  Ben stayed with me the whole time and no one else has walked in which is weird since we're in the girls bathroom.

When we walk out of the bathroom I know why.  Standing there in a familiar school football shirt and shorts with the same color hair I have is the one and only Nick.  He hears the door open so he spins around on his heal and rushes to me, giving me a bear hug.

"Nick.  Nick it was awful.  Nick it scared me so much."  I whisper into his chest since I don't want to let go of him.

"Shhh.  It's okay.  I'm here now.  It's going to be alright."  He whispers back to me.

I realize that there is no one else in the hallway but us three.  Class must have started.  That means I'm late.

"Nick, I don't want to go to class.  Nicole's in there.  I can't do it."  I tell him.

He puts me down and stares me in the eyes.

"Yes you can.  March in there and show her you aren't affected.  Show her strength."  He says.

"I'm in that class too."  Ben says.

I almost forgot he was here. 

I take a deep breath and try to contain myself.  I'm not sure if I can do this.  But I guess I have to try.

"Let's go."  I say.

Nick gives me one last hug and then goes to his class.

"Can we talk real quick.  There's something I need to tell you."  Ben says.

We stop and he leans against the lockers on the wall.  He seems nervous.

"Sure."  I say.

He looks at me how he has been all week.  Like he's deciding things.

"Can you keep a secret?"  He asks.

I nod my head.  His eyes change.  They look dreadfully fearful.

"I'm gay."

Not much happened after that.  I mean I don't care what he is.  He is a good friend and that's all that matters.  He wants to be accepted as he is and that's what I'll do.

It's now Wednesday.  He's come out to my friends too and him and Alec keep exchanging looks.

Honestly nothing much has happened till now.

"Freak."  We hear someone yell.

I know the voice immediately, Nicole.  I rush up and run to see what's happening.

What I see amazed me.  Nicole is picking on, no physically hurting,  another girl.

"Nicole get the hell away from her you bitch."  I scream at her as I run to help the poor girl.

"Oh ya or what.  I'm not scared of you."  He sneers at me.

"Fuck off Nicole."  Ben says,coming to stand behind me.

She gives us a frustrated look and then turns on her heal and walks away.

I run up to the poor girl who is crying in the floor.  I run up and I just hug her and let her cry on my shoulder.

Eventually she stops crying and looks up.  I remember her face.  It's the girl from last Friday, the new girl.

I wonder if she remembered me.

"Thank you."  She says.

I help her up.

"Of course.  Nicole hates us too.  Why don't you come sit with us."  I tell her.

We lead her to our tree we always are under.

"What's your name?"  I ask as we walk.

"Luna.  Luna Jones."  She says.

I nod and we sit down on the grass as soon as we get to the tree.

Alec, Mary and Cat look up as Ben and I come over with Luna.

"This is Luna guys."  I introduced Luna.

She gives a small wave.

"Well hi.  I'm Cat."  Cat says.

"I would be Mary."  Mary says.

"They call me Alec.  Alec the bow tie wearer."  Alec says, which makes everyone laugh.

"Dude no one had ever called you that."  Ben says.  "I'm Ben by the way."

We all laugh again and finish lunch, as we do I feel like Luna may become part of the group.

And really, would that be a bad thing to add another misfit.

"So Luna what brings you to our school?" I ask her.  School just ended and she's waiting for her mom to come pick her up.

"I moved?"  She says, making it sound like a question.

"Are you asking me or telling me that you moved?"  I ask her confused.

She looks nervous about something and I get the feeling that she didn't just move.

"Look I had to.  I don't really want to talk about it right now, I mean I just met you, but I will tell you later.  When I get to know you better. Promise."  She says.

I nod understanding.

"What's your number?"  She asks out of nowhere

"It's 7272499759 why?  I ask her.

She types it into her phone and then I feel mine vibrate.

"Text me."  She says then a car pulls up and she gets in the car.

She's different.  There's something about her.  I want to get to know her.  She seems like a person that just wants a friend.

She also seems to have secrets.  She looks like she wants to tell me but can't bring herself to do it.

But that's okay.  I'll just wait for her to be ready.  And when she is, I'll be right here.

Nick's POV:
I feel the itch again.

It's getting more powerful.  Should I just give in yet?

No I can't, Holly.

But the urge to do it is getting stronger and I'm not sure how much longer I can do this.
