We all hesitate.
"Come on. It will be fun. You all can stay with me and no one has to drink and I won't drink and I can drive you all. If you feel uncomfortable when we're there we can leave and go get ice cream or something. Please. It'll be fun..." He says with his big gray puppy eyes.
I look at my friends.
"Maybe, I don't know it could be fun guys." Mary says.
I'm more hesisatant.
"When is it?" I ask, turning to face my brother again.
"After the game tonight." He says.
"Parents?" I ask.
"Nope." He says.
"Whose party?" I ask.
"One of the boys." He says.
"Which one?" I pry.
"Hunters." He says.
Hunter is iffy. Sometimes he is okay, others he is drunk and unpredictable.
"You'll be there the whole time?" I ask him.
His face lights up. I love it when it does that.
"Of course." He says.
I turn to my friends.
"I think that would be okay." I tell them. They all nod their heads in agreement.
I turn back to Nick.
"Fine. We'll go." I tell him.
He smiles and runs up and bear hugs us all. I laugh.
"Let go of us you butt munch." I say.
He let's go and laughs with me. At this point all 5 of us are laughing.
"See ya squirt." Nick says then walks away.
We watch him walk away, then we form our circle again.
"What do you even wear for a party?" Cat asks.
I think about it. I haven't ever been to one so I don't know.
"Why do you need to know? You guys are losers you don't go to parties. You probably weren't even invited." We hear someone say.
No shock when we turn around we see the queen bee herself, Nicole. Nicole is a grade older than us, she only terrorizes us because I'm Nick's sister and these are my only friends and she wants to date Nick but he doesn't want to date her and so she takes it out on us. It's unfair if you ask me. But I don't tell Nick. I don't want to cause him trouble.
"Actually Nick said we could come with him tonight. So ya we were invited." I say.
I'm not necessarily shy, I can stand up for myself, I'm just not outgoing or popular.
"And you freaks said you would go?" She looks flabbergasted.
"We're not freaks. And ya we did." Will says.
Nicole smiles. Seconds later she snaps her fingers and her minions show up, trapping us in a circle with Nicole.
"Listen here you circus freaks. You are freaks. You will always be freaks. Show up tonight I ruin you. Tell Nick, I ruin you. Your choice." Nicole says.
Then she snaps her fingers and her and her minions all walk away.
We all turn and look at each other.
"Let me be the first to say," Mary starts, "that she is a bitch. I say we still go and tell Nick too. She's going to ruin us either way, let's just show her we're not afraid."
That sounds like a good plan. But I'm afraid. Afraid of her. Afraid of what she can do.
"We-e-e ca-ca-can't." I say.
"Why not? You are always the first one of us to stand up for us. Why can't you do this to show her you aren't afraid?" Cat asks.
"Because I am afraid." I whisper.
They all seem shocked.
"Afraid of what?" Will asks.
"Her." I say.
Mary takes a step closer to me.
"Then let's take her down. It's time to face your fear." She says.
"Ya we can do this!" Cat says.
She also takes a step closer together.
"Together." Will says, also taking a step forward.
Now we're in a tight circle, almost like a football huddle.
"Game plan?" I ask.
"Take down Nicole by telling Nick and going to the party." Cat says.
"When do we tell Nick?" Mary asks.
"After school." Will says.
"Hands in." I say.
We do this all the time.
"On three." I say.
"One, two, three." I say
"All for one and one for all, together we stand, together we fall, but in the end we win them all, all for one all, misfits, you know!"
On 'know' we do that thing where you throw your hands in the air.
Then the bell rings saying that we have 4 minutes to get to class.
We say our goodbyes and went our separate ways.
