Shellington felt increasingly nervous as he walked with his sister and friend through the school's hallways, taking in the diverse faces. Eventually, they arrived at the front office where a middle-aged dachshund smiled upon seeing them.
"Oh, Hello," The dachshund said, "You two must be The Sea Otters."
Pearl and Shellington nodded as the teacher handed Kevin Rough Collie his schedule. He was wearing Ottoto Waterloo glasses, which the sea otter pups had noticed earlier, but they didn't laugh. Shellington looked at his schedule and locker numbers, feeling nervous.
Locker Number: 123 (Combination: 16-35-7)
1st period: Chemistry room 200: 7:15 AM-8:00 AM
2nd period: Algraba A room 101: 8:05 AM-8:15 AM
3rd period: Wellness room 208: 9:00 AM-9:15 AM
4th period: English 9 room 107: 10:00 AM-10:15 AM
5th period: Fine Arts 1 room 210: 10:25 AM-11:00 AM
STUDY HALL: 11:15 AM-12:45 PM
3rd Lunch: 1:15 PM-1:35 PM
6th period: Home economic room 110: 1:40 PM-1:50 PM
7th period: Bible Study room 204: 1:55 PM-2:15 PM
The nervous teenage boy glanced at his schedule before turning to face the stern front office lady. He swallowed hard, feeling the turbulence of anxiety in his gut. Thankfully, his friends Pearl and Kevin came up behind him and placed their hands reassuringly on his back. With their support, he felt marginally better and they all left the office together, heading to class. Pearl spotted some old friends and rushed over to hug them, but they looked at her little brother with confusion, as if he was an alien from another planet. Pearl stood with her hands on her hips, ready to defend her family against any judgment. It was just another day in the high school movie that was their lives.
"Come on you girls," Pearl said to her old friends "Just because he's different that doesn't mean he's a threat to all of you,"
One of Pearl's friends, Mckenzie The Birman Cat, looked at Pearl and then looked at two of their friends, Finley The Siberian Husky, and Isla The English Spot Rabbit, and then they agreed to treat their friend's little brother just like anyone else in the school.
"Okay, you win, We won't lay a finger on your brother," Mckenzie said
"Yeah, we won't hurt him," Finley said with a bubbly smile
"You can count on us," Isla said
Pearl smiled at her brother, who felt better seeing her friends accepting him. Kevin checked both his and Shellington's schedules.
"Hey, we are in the same class together," Kevin Smiled "And I know where it is, Come on"
As the bell rang, students began to flood into the classroom, looking for their seats. A Rough Collie and a sea otter walked in together, holding hands as they navigated the crowded room. They finally found their seats and settled in as their Chemistry teacher, Mr. Dog, began the day's lesson. Shellington glanced around the room, taking in all the unfamiliar faces until his eyes landed on one that made his heart skip a beat.
"K-K-Kevin..." He quivered and poked his friend's arm "G-Grace is in the same class as us!"
Kevin looked in Shellington's direction and saw the Persian Cat sitting on the other side of the classroom, her hair was styled in a The Face-Farming Messy bun as she sat down and kicked her feet up,
