The next morning Sherlock as leaves for school I notice him tuck the hat into his bag. I knew from that moment on Mycroft has given him more than just a gift, he has given Sherlock exactly what he needed. As Sherlock and I wait for the bus together as we always have I feel that deep down there was something special about this day. The blue sky carries the crips smells of autumn and something more intangible. Something like hope. I wait for Sherlock to come home letting the sun warm my back and savoring the warm rays that would soon fade as winter set in. The vivd yellow school bus pulls up to the end of the road, and Sherlock gets off and on this marvelous day his eyes are shining with the same luster as they once did. We walk down the path back to the house together. Sherlock rests his hand on my back and gently curls my fur around his fingers. " Redbeard today in science we started something called chemistry and it is the best subject I have ever taken. You can explain anything using chemistry, even love." He trails off with those last words as he spots John walking home on the same path. John turns to look and Sherlock and their eyes meet, months of unsaid words and feelings travel between them. It's electric. Sherlock and John cause a pulsing shockwave to pass through the air, they are like a storm in the summer. Completley powerful and unexpected. "John I'm..." Sherlock begins but John stops him by running over and crushing Sherlock in a tight hug. They both laugh together and fall down on the vibrant autumn leaves that paint the lawn. "I missed you so much." Sherlock exclaims in between fits of giggles. "I missed you too." John replies standing up and offering a hand to Sherlock. "I'm never leaving you again Sherlock, it unbearable. Even if you are being a completely silent and stuck up git, I will drag you from your room if I have to." Sherlock laughs once more and plucks a bright orange leaf from John's untidy blonde hair. "I don't doubt it." He replies. That evening John joins Sherlock for dinner and they retreat up to his room to fill each other in on the parts of their lives they missed. Sherlock tells John about his hat and learning chemistry. John tells Sherlock about becoming captain of the rugby team. They talk and laugh until the sky darkens and only pinpricks of light and the dancing moon remain to paint it. For a while all is right in the world.
