"The key to being a detective is to look for the clues hidden in plain sight. You must always watch for the things a passive eye would fail to see." Sherlock and Mycroft are sitting at the end of Sherlock's bed and Mycroft is holding a wool hat for his brother to examine."Take a look at it and tell me what you know about the owner of this hat." Mycroft states. Sherlock grabs the hat and sets it on his lap, eyes scanning eagerly as his fingers fly across its coarse surface. He begins muttering under his breath and after a moment of quiet hesitation he begins rattling off a list of deductions at lightning fast speed. " It belongs to a young boy, you can tell from the name written in sharpie in the side. It says Anderson which is not often a girl's name and adults aren't often taken to writing their names in things. He is compulsive and of nervous tendency becuase the bauble on one side has been chewed. " Sherlock finishes with s flourish and stares up at his brother with shining eyes. Mycroft stares at him blankly before taking the hat into his hands. "Good brother dear, you missed plenty important details but you're learning." Sherlock stares back at him his hopeful look is replaced by one of indignation. "What did I miss." He responds hurt lapsing into his voice. Mycroft holds the hat out and begins explaining his own deductions." The hat belongs not to a kid but to an adult male. You can tell by the amount of stretched fabric on the hat that he has continued wearing it as his head grows, suggesting of course he's had it since he was a kid. The fact the ink has faded away lends itself to the idea tha the has continued to refresh it and the amount of repairs on the hat suggest sentimentality and compulsitude. " Sherlock looks up at his brother in awe, blue eyes shining with admiration. Mycroft hands the hat back to him and gets up to leave. "Keep practicing. " He states before walking out the door. Sherlock flops down on the bed and flashes a toothy grin at me. "One day Redbeard I'm gonna be a detective."
