Sorry about the long wait. This piece is longer and hopefully an update a week from now on! Have a good week. Until next time enjoy!
The trek to our cabin is long and quickly growing dark making it colder. He stubbles more than he walks and as we move further from one but closer to the other he begins to shake from the lack of his brew.
A brew that he forces me to make. The brew is so strong that it would put most people on their asses.
I tried to weaken it once. He noticed and I was beaten so severely that I barely survived.
I shiver because I know his moods grow worse the longer he goes without his concoction of his. I cringe as he stubbles yet again. This time, some how, his fingers find the tips of my hair and get tangled. I try to keep from falling with him but I still feel the sharp pinpricks a tale tale sign that my hair is ripping from my scalp wrenching a scream from me before I can restrain myself from bring attention to my injury. I quickly stop the sound before he rights himself, hoping to save myself from a beating.
A loud slap rings throughout the trees as I fall to the ground. I bring my legs under me, then my head to my knees while discreetly scooping up a handful of snow and applying it to my stunned, numb cheek.
It doesn't help much.
I whimper and press myself into the snow hoping to be forgotten and be allowed to go back to my wolf, my cozy cabin and my pot-luck suppers. I wish I was home with my wolf. I miss my wolf, the protection he offers, the safety he exudes.
I miss him.
The forest is quiet, too quiet, no bird songs or little creatures digging, rooting around for food long covered by snow.
A twig snaps in the distance and footsteps can be heard growing closer and closer. My face is turned towards the noises and I fill with a little bit of hope.
Maybe it's him come to save me again.
I have no such luck.
Through a gap in the trees my brother steps leading with a rifle, from their stash.
I want to cry and scream to fight for the rifle and end my misery. But I can do none of those things with the my battered form. But thankfully his attention is solely on the monster, that is my father, helping him to his feet and dusting the powered snow off of him.
They talk but I can't hear through the pain and my attempt at shuffling further from them and closer to the woods behind me.
I place my knee on a soft spot, it sinks and a dull snap causes both of their heads to snap in my direction.
I silently whimper, my chin wobbling and tears flow freely down my face. I try to shrink into myself one more time, to disappear or to make a small target I'm not sure but praying for one of them to be of use.
The sounds of snow crunching under booted feet can be heard in the little clearing.
"So you found our maid, I see." My brother asks, his boots to the left of my sight.
The monster says, " Ya found her shacked up in some cabin, it looked like she was waiting for someone." He kicks my ribs before continuing," we aren't good enough for you? Or did you provide him with something you don't give us."
This sends both of them in to a fit of laughter.
I see behind them a huge figure in the shadows, to dark for any colors to be discernible but his stance and the silent snarls that cause his teeth to show proves it is my wolf.
I hold my breath waiting but he shakes his head. He's always been more than he appeared so I know he means not now but I hope that means he has a plan.
I am picked up from the ground, never breaking eye contact, and roughly placed on a shoulder, bruising my already damaged ribs. I bite my lips in order to contain the sounds wanting to come out from the pain. My wolf makes to step out from the cover of the forest, I stop him with a small shake of my head. I plead with him to save me but to wait until it's safe for him too.
I can't lose my wolf but I lose sight of him as I am force ably taken away from him, hoping to see him soon, so soon.
