PART 15

Chapter 15

Sunlight streamed through the pale blue curtains casting quiet patterns across the hospital walls. Manik lay on the bed, as nandu sat beside him. Her hand was resting lightly on top of his caressing his thumb

As the door burst open two tiny figures stumbled in, breathless, cheeks flushed. The twins, their dark eyes wide and glistening as they scanned the room before racing towards the bed. Their small arms wrapped around manik legs, trembling as they cried quietly

It was their first meeting with their father and it was in the hospital,  their dad was lying on the bed with wires on his hand, bandage around his knee

Manik blinked, he looked down at them, confusion flooding his face, he then looked at Nandu who had tears in his eyes

Manik in his mind- whose children are they? Nandu? Then why are they crying?

He look at Nandu, questions swirling in his eyes, but her gaze was fixed on the twins, lips pressed tightly together.  Something was buried in the silence

Manik- why... why are they crying?
His voice was hoarse

The twins clung to Manik as though afraid he might vanish again, their small shoulders shaking with the weight of their tears
Manik stared at them, their tear-streaked faces of the twins

Namik/manvi- papaa

Manik's gaze went to Nandu, seeking answers. He remembered how they made love that night

Nandu- they are ours, your blood. They waited long enough for you

His lips parted, trembling on the edge of recognition.  Something flickered in his eyes

A smile stretched across his face slowly, like sunlight trying to break through storm clouds

Manik- my babies
His breath hitched

The kids heard him and snuggled in his neck, manik's arms wrapped tight around them like he was afraid they'd vanish,same with the twins

Manvi- maa he knows us
She said with excitement, yet tears were in her eyes.

Manik and Nandu left out a laugh, but manik emotions were at peak looking at his kids

Namik- now we are not letting you go away from us ok
He said as if warning Manik

Manik nodded innocently with tears in his eyes
Nandu looked at them as she wiped a tear that spilled out of her eyes

As manik and the kids were having a small conversation,  he noticed that the door opened softly. His father stepped in followed by everyone
Their expression was frozen somewhere between disbelief and wonder
