Chapter 6: Rejected

I don't tell my parents about Cody. I need to ask him first. On the bus, he sits alone, when I try to look into his eyes, he looks away.
I tear out a piece of paper from my notebook and write:

Meet me in the unused classroom after school.

I hand the letter to him as I get off the bus. I don't look back and head straight to my locker.
For the rest of the day, Cody avoids me and when I try to get to him, he just walks away. At the end of the day, I wait for Cody in the unused classroom, my hands touching the dusty desktops. I was about to think he was not going to come when he came in, head finally up, his eyes staring into mine.
I can see sadness and regret, and also anger in his blue eyes. And also a hint of afraid-ness.
"You came." I say and walk towards him.
Cody shuffles back.
"Don't touch me Wolfgirl." Cody cries.
I stop, sadness stabbing my heart. So Cody knew my secret.
"I called 9-1-1! They will get rid of you tomorrow, so you won't be a threat to me or the school." Cody says softly and walks out of the classroom.
I stay there, stunned. My life is in danger. I might die today or tomorrow. How will I survive?

"Mom." I say as she enters my room.
"What's up Sweetie?" She says, sitting beside me on the floor.
"My secret is revealed. The police are notified." I whisper, unable to meet my mother's eye.
"What?!" My mother exclaimed. "Who called the police?"
"Cody." I say softly.
"Your boyfriend?!" My mom cries. "I will drop you from River Meadow High idmediantly."
My mom hustles out of the room instantly, leaving me staring at the soothing green walls.
Even if I drop out of school, Cody knows where my house is. The police will know too. The human world is too dangerous for me. There is one thing that can save me from certain death. And that is to mate Storm and turn forever wolf.
It's almost WolfGirl time. I can ask him tonight.
A beep on my phone notifies me of a text message. It was from Cody. It said:

Please forgive me Mira. I was afraid, so I called the police. I never wanted you to die.....

How does he ask for forgiveness when he has already chosen my fate? He was the one that will cause my death. How will I ever forgive him?
I walk down the stairs and hug my dad, my mom, and Milo.
"I love you guys. I'm going to marry Storm." I say and sprint to the hollow.
Storm was already there. Waiting. I smile and change into wolf. Tears were spilling out my wolf eyes as I nuzzled Storm. I will never see my parents again, never see Milo's happy smiles. But I was with Storm, and I love him. Storm licks away the tears and we walk out into the forest, tails entwined.
We head towards The Great Lake and our wolf paw's leave a trail on the soft layer of sand.
Storm gives a satisfying sigh and I lean onto him.
I give a little yip to attract his attention, he locks his soft green eyes into mine and cocks his head, meaning what?.
"I love you Storm." I woof quietly.
Storm barks that same sentence back, but replacing his name with mine.
"Let's start a pack. We can have puppies and be Alpha and Beta!" I bark, wagging my tail a bit.
Storm's eyes instantly cloud over, the aliveness gone and he stares at the floor. My heart sinks.
Storm whines, disagreeing to my idea.
"I don't want to start a pack. I want to stay in this pack Mira." Storm says silently.
I dip my head and run back to camp, not looking back to see if Storm is following or not. Death is now my fate. Storm has rejected my proposal.
When I enter camp, I bump into Bracken.
I flatten my ears on my head and lower my tail to say I'm sorry. Bracken cocks his ears and lolls his tongue out. I look up and laugh a wolf laugh. Bracken wags his tail and bounds away.
That night, Storm slept somewhere else. Not with me. I felt very alone and very desperate. I don't want to die. The night sounds chillingly still and quiet. As if the whole forest is holding its breath and waiting to see what will happen. I miss Storm's presence. Although he rejected me, I still miss those soft green eyes and his warmth. My eyes slowly close and I fall asleep as the moon rises higher and higher into the pitch black night sky.
I wake up to the soft falling thumps of rain. I catch a small measly mouse and gobble it all up and return to the hollow. My tail disappears, my fur turns to human skin, my ears vanish and I am back to human. I slowly make my way to my house, my eyes fixed on my feet. The weather was not helping my moods.
I push open my house's front door and instantly, hands grab my arms and I scream and kick, lashing out on everything. I look at the driveway of my house, a police car was parked there. How did I not see?! The police officers blindfold me and the last thing I see is the scared look in my parent's eyes. I hear Milo crying and Luna squawking loudly from my room.
"Sheriff, she's struggling too much!" A police officer on my right calls.
I kick him and I hear a ooff.
A needle goes into my arm and all I see is black.
