The yips and barks of my five pups makes me feel happiness inside. Bracken sits beside me as we watch our pups. I sigh and watch the sun setting. So many things have happened in my life that I wish to forget. But I've learned now to keep strong and remember the good creatures in this world that died.
My pups, named after who I loved, Cody, Storm, Luna, Milo, and Roxie bound up to me.
"Mom! Look! The sun is falling!" Storm yips, jumping around.
I smile and curl my tail around all five pups. Bracken's tail curls around me and I feel his warmth as a cool breeze blows by. The pups watch in awe as the sun slowly disappears and the moon starts to rise.
Cody, the rascal of all of the pups, jumps over my tail and scampers towards the direction of setting sun.
"Don't go to far." Bracken barks happily.
Then one by one, the other pups follow Cody, trying to touch the red, setting sun.
I sigh and lean against Bracken's soft brown fur and watch the pups play in the distance.
Bracken looks at me and I nod. Then together, we lifted our muzzles and howled. In the distance, I see my pups stop playing and they join in. Adding their little, tiny, voices to the pack howl. The first pack howl.
And as the sun disappears and the moon escalates higher into the sky, we howl. Our voices entwined into one, yet still separately unique.
I feel warmth and love in my heart and I feel like I can climb the highest mountain and swim the deepest sea. I feel happiness. True happiness that I haven't felt for so long. It erupts in me and mingles in my howl.
When the moon is at the highest point, one by one we stop. The pups scamper back, seeking warmth as the crowd around me, pushing their little bodies against my fur. I sigh happily and nuzzle Bracken, my mate, my love, my Alpha.
