Chapter 9: Surprise!!!

A day before Lexi's birthday we closed up early as I'd already talked to my manager about us organising the party. He is a nice man, so he gave us permission to hold the surprise birthday party there without even taking any money. Everyone, including Adrian arrived at 5pm and started preparing.

Mia and Indy were going crazy with decorations, as we appointed them with that duty. Amelia was also helping them out. Anna was responsible for taking care of the budget and all that stuff since she is ALSO good at that. Eva was responsible for arranging food and Adrian was helping her which was quite a shock, we were all surprised as she is not too fond of working with guys. Being a feminist and all she prefers to be independent especially around guys. Astonishingly, Adrian is the only guy she doesn't seem to mind working with. I was helping Akiko with invitations, as it was Lexi's birthday so almost the whole of Year 13 students were going to be invited.

The party was to start at midnight and the guest would start arriving at 11:30pm alongside Lexi. Orla was responsible for bringing Lexi to the party because Orla is really good at fooling people somehow and leaving them puzzled. I also wanted Brian to be there since we had been working together and became good friends, but unfortunately, he had some family meeting so he apologised saying he wouldn't be able to make it.

After closing down at 10pm everyone got to their work.

Me and Akiko had already finished our job so we just helped others with decoration and setting tables. We finished our preparations almost 15 minutes before 11:30pm when the guests had started arriving. 5 minutes till 11:30 pm, we received a text from Orla that she will be here in about 5 minutes. Everyone quickly started hiding in different places after being told that Orla and Lexi would arrive in 5 minutes. I had to rush to my hiding place as I turned off all the lights after everyone had gone to hide.

'Orla! Why are we here? And don't you dare tell me another one of your quotes, I told you I don't understand a word!' shouted Lexi aggravatedly from the outside as she entered with Orla. 'Oh look! It's closed Orla!' Lexi said glaring at Orla.

'To forgive or not to forgive... these are your only choices.' Orla started with her weird talk again while smiling at Lexi.

'Oohhh!!! Why can't I ever understand what you say?' snorted Lexi.

'SURPRISE!!!!!!!' Everyone shouted simultaneously, popping their heads out of their hiding places as I turned on the lights again.

'AAAAA!!!!' Lexi screeched excitedly while jumping up and down. 'A surprise birthday party for me. OMG! How sick is that?!'

Instead of coming towards us she ran to the pile of gifts. Typical, that's how she always acts.

'So many gifts!' she chanted with her eyes wide. She looked like a child on Christmas morning.

'Thank you guys!' she yelled when she finally turned towards us and we all had a group hug. Also typical, as Lexi thinks it saves her time and energy to hug everyone at one time. My, my, this girl... but we love her. She is an amazing friend though, always being there for anyone who needs her. Lexi can change the atmosphere completely with her remarkable humour.

We were all busy chitchatting while enjoying  their drinks when Mia announced that it's time to cut the cake. Everyone then gathered around the table with a square shaped chocolate cake on it.

'Here Lexi.' I handed her the knife. We clapped and sang the birthday song as she blew the candles and started to cut a piece of cake.

Indy and Mia rubbed cake on both of her cheeks before she had finished cutting a piece. 'Noooo!!!!!' screamed Lexi. 'My make up.' She pouted and glared at them playfully while cleaning her face with a tissue. Whereas, Mia and Indy laughed at her and the rest of us all just giggled. 'Wow Lex! It's your first birthday after 5 years without a boyfriend.' Akiko's tongue slipped and we all went pale, ready to face worst. However, to all of our surprise Lexi just shrugged her shoulder and smiled saying. 'Boys are lucky to have me, but they don't appreciate me. What can I do about it?'

Everyone let a sigh of relief before smiling.

'Aww Lexi you are soo cute and pretty, I'm sure you'll find your MR RIGHT soon,' chuckled Mia handling the situation carefully.

'Yes Lexi, you will,' we all said at the same time causing us to burst out in laughter. 'Aww guys, that's so nice of you,' droned Lexi. 'But already know that I am pretty.' She winked at us and we all burst out laughing again.

This is just what I loved, I would forget everything when I was with my friends. I kept looking at Adrian every now and then, especially since I was having such a good time, I wanted to make sure he did too. Since he had joined school this year and I didn't see him hang out with anyone much, I felt as if I should look out for him. There was definitely something about that boy which made me want to look after him, help him.

But what can I do? How can I help him? I'm messed up myself. I thought to myself and sighed. Forget it all Aura. Just live the moment.'I mentally heard Akiko's voice in my mind. Akiko always told me that when I was stressed out. I shook all the negativity off and focused on the party again.

Seeing how everyone was having a great time. My friends laughing and having the time of their lives. My eyes searched for a face with those magnetic and haunting blue eyes. I managed to find Amelia and Adrian, both socialising and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I felt a sense of joy bubble inside of me which overloaded me when Adrian's eyes made contact with mine.

We had a wonderful time together after so long before everyone started leaving for their homes. I had to stay behind for a bit longer to clean up. My friends decided to help out but I told them to go home as they live a bit further from this area.

Adrian and Amelia decided to help me out and to leave with me. Truth to be told, these moments made me feel alive again. The old Aura... was starting to reappear and those intensely striking, blue eyes did nothing but catalyse it all.
