The War

The war is over. I killed Coin. I was meaning to shoot Snow but instead I shot Coin. In the midst of the commotion Snow died. We don't know if his sores were just that bad, or if everyone was in such a rush they stomped and kicked him to death. My little duck is gone also. Not a days goes by that I don't think of her. How her shirt was too big for the reaping, or her two blond braids falling down her back because her hair was that long. She was just like my mom, a healer. Finnick is gone as well. The lizard-human mutts took him as he sacrificed himself for me, the mockingjay. So many lives lost because of me. How I wish I could bring them all back.

Our new president is Commander Paylor, from district 8. Gale also left us. Fled to district 2 probably out kissing another pair of lips. I miss him, I truly do. But what can I do? He doesn't want to see anyone from district 12. But we're happy, Peeta and I. Built a house out in the meadow where it's quiet and peaceful. Haymitch comes buy a couple of times a week, when he's sober enough. We try to keep him from drinking a lot but we let him slip every now and then. People are slowly moving back to district 12.

Peeta works at the bakery still that we've rebuilt.  We got married shortly after the District 12 was rebuilt, just a small simple wedding. It didn't consist of many people. Haymitch, Effie, Annie and her ,little boy who looks exactly like Finnick. We invited Gale but he didn't show. Sometimes at home he will still grab the end of the chair until the flashbacks are over. ( I know this is from mockingjay but I don't wanna be word for word.) I still wake screaming and thrashing from nightmares about the war, Prim, mutts and children. Peeta is always there to comfort me. His way with words like he used to be with the Capitol interviews.

Peeta is at work when I get a phone call. "Hello?" I answer. "Katniss! Hey it's Peeta I'm on my lunch break just calling to see how you are." Peeta says. "Oh hi I'm fine just got back from hunting. I miss you." "I miss you too. I'll be getting off work early today we have to discuss something." He finishes sounding sad. What could it be? "Um okay well I'll see you when you get here." I say. "Okay bye I love you." "I love you too bye." He hangs up first, what could it be? He sounded upset so it couldn't be good.

Even thought I'm not the best cook Peeta normally cooks dinner I decided to make lamb stew, my favorite. I skin game from today while the pot starts to boil. I taste the stew after a while and it tastes pretty good. I'm getting the bowls out when the from door opens and Peeta walks in. "Hey I'm home." He says as he comes over to me and kisses my cheek. "Hi I made lamb stew." I say while putting the bowls at the table. "Smells good." Peeta finishes as walking to the table.

"How was work?" I question. "It was okay. Not to many orders." He says. What's wrong with him? He doesn't seem himself. "Is something wrong?" I ask while I push my bowl to the side wanting answers. He stops eating as well and looks at me with tears swimming in his eyes. "I got a call from District 2 they want me to come and visit for a business trip for the bakery. It would mean more money but I would be gone for a week." He says. "Honey that's great! It's only a week I'll be fine. I will visit Haymitch so I won't be too lonely I'll go hunting more. Visit Sage we haven't talked in a while this is good! You don't have to worry about me I'll be fine." He looks up with no tears anymore.
"Really?" "Yes really Peeta." I say as I kiss him. "When do you leave?" I ask "Tomorrow" He says. "Okay well I'll go pack your bag. Can you wash the dishes?" "Sure" Peeta says taking our bowls to the sink as he starts to put the soap on the sponge while the water falls filling up the bowls.

I start to pack his bag grabbing shirts shorts and shoes. Sure I'll miss him but it's only for a week. I've been feeling sick lately. Nothing to big just in the mornings like throwing up. I haven't told Peeta because I don't want him to worry. After he leaves I'll go visit Haymitch then go to visit Sage and ask her about my symptoms. I've finished packing and I set his bag by the door. Just then Peeta comes up the stairs I assume he finished the dishes. We change then lay in bed ready to sleep from the long day.

"Good nite Peeta I love you." I say missing him as I snuggle into his arm putting my head on his chest.
"Good nite I love you too Katniss." He says kissing my head. And with that I fall asleep hoping no nightmares come.
