As I sat alone in the dark and gloomy "panic room", I really started to contemplate what was going on here.

I was stuck wounded, along with my wounded friend in my own house. We are being tracked down by a demon-ghost (or whatever it may be), my friend has declared his love to me and my feeling are not mutual, and on top of that, my only companion has just left into the unknown to track the very thing that is out to get us.

"Nice, Kella. Nice." I muttered to myself.

After about 15 minutes of silence, I was bored out of my mind. I noticed this was my first time in this room, so I started to look around. There were cupboards full of food, water, and medical supplies. There was a cell phone that's battery was dead.....

And then something caught my eye. An intricately carved wooden chest in the dark and far-left corner of the room.

I slowly walked to open it.

It wouldn't budge.

I pulled as hard as I possibly could, my arms feeling like they could fall off from all the weight.

Finally, the chest opened unexpectedly, sending my falling backwards.

I scrambled to see the contents of the box I'd worked so hard to open.

Inside was a lone object: a book.

The cover was a scratched black leather, and it had a funny silver design on the front. It looked sort of like a pentagram.

I wonder why that was on the front. I slowly opened the book. The paper inside was worn and yellowing, and the ink on the pages was red. It showed a lot of different drawings, and I had no clue on what they meant. Maybe Donald would....

Donald! He still hadn't come back! How long had it been?

I started to panic. What if he'd been killed?!

I sat against the wall, waiting. What seemed like hours passed..... I started to feel drowsy..... My eyes were gradually closing......

BAM!

A frantic knock on the trap door nearly scared the wits out of me. I jumped and scrambled to open it.

When I finally did, Donald scrambled inside, huffing for breath.

"What the-?" I started.

"The thing..." He puffed. "It isn't.... A demon.... Or a ghost...."

My heart sank. If it wasn't either of those, what was it?

"What do you mean?" I said, my voice shaking undeniably.

"I mean..... I tired holy water on it, with no prevail, and It DEFINITELY wasn't a ghost. It's too human-like."

My heart sank even further.

"Well." I piped up. "I found this when you were gone."

I handed him the book, watching him take in the details of it.

"The pentagram." He muttered. He opened it and turned the pages.

"Kell, this is genius!" He lit up. "This tells us all about ghosts and demons and every supernatural thing imaginable! We could save ourselves!"

I beamed.

"Really? You understand it?!" I said happily.

"Of course I do! We'll be evil-free in no time!" He was positively beaming.

We both absorbed every possible piece of information in the book, poring over it for hours.

Donald compared the qualities of the evil girl to the qualities of everything in the book, but we found nothing. My heart started to sink as fast as it rose earlier.

We finally gave up and put the book down.

"Nothing." I sighed. "After all of this work..... Nothing."

He put his head in his hands.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a page of the book on the ground. The script looked to be in black instead of red. Hmm.

I picked it up, reading the caption on the top.

In bold and spidery black letters, it read

SOUL SUCKER.
