On the other side of the portal, Alethea and Astarte descended toward the resort, aiming at the main building where Hannah worked.
Once they landed, they went in and approached the main desk.
"I need to see Hannah Marshall right away, is she here?"
The girl behind the desk blinked in surprise. "Lady Astarte?"
"Yes. Please tell me where Hannah is. This is an emergency."
"Yes, ma'am. She's in her office."
"Thank you. I know where it's at. Come, Alethea," Astarte took her niece's hand and led her along until they arrived at the Governor's Office. She knocked and heard a voice from the other side.
"Enter." After Astarte opened the door and the two entered, Hannah continued without looking up, "Be quick. I have a lot of work today."
"I'm afraid you'll need to delegate," Astarte said, causing Hannah to look up immediately since she recognized her voice.
"Astarte? Why are you-" She eyed Alethea and narrowed her eyes. "What is she doing in public?"
"Never mind that," Alethea said. "We need your expertise as a doctor. We need your help taking care of your granddaughter."
"As a doctor? There are many capable doctors, my daughter included. She is more than capable of taking care of her children."
"Layla wants your help this time. Shi-chan... Kye is lying in bed writhing in pain right now. Layla and I have been trying to alleviate it, but she doesn't know the proper magic, and I'm not powerful enough to make a difference."
"I see." Hannah laid down her pen and stood up from her desk, stretching as she did. "I'll get ready right away."
"No, let's go now." Alethea held out her hand and formed a portal back to Kye's bedroom, earning a pair of wide eyes and open mouth from the purple-haired royal.
"My word... you did that without even the spell name." They could see the bed through the portal with Astraia and Layla sitting on either side of it. Hannah swallowed hard and ran through it, soon followed by the two imperials. "What's wrong with her?"
"She's in a lot of pain and-"
"Her body is perfectly fine," Alethea interrupted. "The problem is the phantom pain. We need magic to numb the pain. Layla doesn't know any magic to do that, and the magic I know that can do it is beyond my power right now."
"Phantom pain?" Hannah asked. "You're certain? Nothing else?"
"Yes, I'm certain," she replied. "I can explain why later. Please believe me for now."
Hannah nodded. "Very well." She walked around the bed and sat next to Layla. She held her hand out over Kye and examined her mana. "Nothing out of the ordinary with her mana. Then this phantom pain is caused only by her mind. We have two options. Sleep or numbing."
"Don't... put me... to sleep," Kye said, struggling to speak through the pain. "The pain will just... continue... when I wake up."
"Then numbing is the only option. What have you tried?"
"I've tried a variety of pain suppressing magic," Layla said, "but I don't know the mental pain magic you do."
"I see." Hannah glanced at Alethea. "What magic did you have in mind that you are not powerful enough to cast?"
"It's not that I'm not powerful enough to cast it at all, but that I can't overcome Shi-chan's pain with it. Exaltation."
Hannah cracked a light smile. "You know your stuff. Exaltation was what I was thinking, too." She began channeling mana. "This spell works by countering pain with comfort. Rather than numb outright, it replaces the problem. However, it can be a dangerous spell if the target has depression, anxiety, or some such."
