"Who are you?" I heard a nervous Zoe ask the woman.

"I am her mother, and you are?"

"Yeah, great mum you are if you haven't even been bothered about her whereabouts in the previous six months."

"I have been busy!"

"So busy you forgot about your own daughter? Actually let me change that, she's not your daughter anymore. She's mine."

"She is not your daughter!"

"Didn't you hear? She was adopted. By me. Now please leave her alone because you can obviously see that she doesn't want anything to do with you."

I opened my eyes and saw Zoe crouched on my right and my 'mum' crouched on my left.

"Zoe, what happened?"

She pulled me into a hug.

"She doesn't even call you mum!" My birth mother sneered.

"Daisy can call me whatever she wants, it does not diminish the love I have for her."

My heart swells in happiness. No one before Zoe had ever spoken of me so warmly and the fact that I now felt valued and wanted made me the happiest girl alive.

"Come on Daisy, let's get you home. You need some rest."

As soon as we got into the car, I fell asleep instantly.

The weekend went by faster than usual and in what seemed like no time at all, it was Monday which saw Zoe getting me up very early and making me breakfast. I jumped in the shower then got dressed in my uniform of a white shirt, blue tie, blue jumper, black skirt, black tights and black shoes. I walked downstairs slowly whilst brushing my hair but today it was so knotty that I found it hard to brush it properly.

"Morning Zo." I yawned.

"Hi sweetie, I've done you some breakfast."

I looked into the bowl which contained porridge topped with syrup in the shape of 'Good Luck'.

"Aw this is so cute. I don't want to eat it."

"Tuck in and I'll do your hair for you."

She blow dried and straightened it for me then styled it into a half up half down messy bun. When I had finished my breakfast she then applied a minimal amount of makeup, mascara and a bit of eyebrow pencil to fill in the sparse areas of my brows.

"There you go, now you just need to brush your teeth and make your bed." She says, standing back from me.

I went up and made my bed quickly, arranging my cushions in the way that I always do, the way that Zoe likes them and then rush to the bathroom and brush my teeth. Once I come back downstairs, Zoe has her camera in hand and I can hear her vlogging. I wait on the stairs quietly until she's finished then go into the kitchen.

"Aw Daisy, you look so grown up in your uniform! Let me take your picture."

I stood by the kitchen counter and smiled whilst she took several photos of me. I then grabbed my bag and my lunch before shouting goodbye to Alfie and walking out of the house.

"I'll come and pick you up when you finish, Dais. Okay?" I nod before she continues. "You have to tell me all about it when you get home! I know you'll be fine, I love you good luck."

I say "I love you too." Before following the other pupils into the grounds.

"Erm, hi I'm new here and-"

"Do I look like I give a shit?" The girl spits in my face and walks off, flicking her hair as she went.

"I heard you say that you're new, do you need any help?" A voice says behind me.

"Oh yes please, I have absolutely no idea where I'm going!"

"I'm Bella, what's your name?"

"Daisy." I reply.

"You have to ignore the older girls, they're always horrible to the younger ones. I hope I don't turn out that way!" She shudders and I laugh in agreement.

"Pass me your timetable then I can show you where to go."

I hand her the piece of paper Zoe gave me.

"Oh cool! You're in my form!"

"Really?" A wave of relief passes over me that I know one member of my form before I even go in.

"Yeah, come on let's go."

We walk in to a large classroom together and she automatically goes to a table near the back. I hang back, unsure of what to do and see the other girls staring at me causing my anxiety levels to rise.

"Daisy, over here!" Bella calls me and I sigh in relief that I'm now able to leave an awkward situation.

"Daisy this is Lauren, Jess, Katie and Holly." Bella tells me, pointing to each girl in turn.

"Hi." I say as I sat down in the chair Bella had pulled up for me.

"How come you've only just started here?" One of them, I think it's Katie, asks me.

"I moved house." I lied smoothly and then said: "I missed a lot of school last year because of illness so I decided to redo the year."

"So you're older than us?"

"Yeah, only one year though."

"Oh cool."

The rest of the day passes by in a blur and before I know it the bell rings and everyone rushes out the classroom to go home.

"Daisy!" Bella calls me as I'm making my way out of the classroom, "wait a sec!"

I turn round and stop to wait for her.

"We haven't exchanged phone numbers yet." She says.

"Oh right." I pull out my phone and read off the number to her as she enters it into her contacts.

"I'll call you later, then you'll have my number too."

"Okay, see you tomorrow."

"See ya!"

My head was reeling from the amount of information I had processed that day, I had never realised that school was so stressful.

And you're only in year seven.
