Over the next few months, I spent more and more time with Zoe and Alfie to the point where I only went back to the orphanage once or twice a week. I had become comfortable around them now and even let Nala sit on my lap when I was watching TV. I had now known her for long enough to know that she was completely harmless and was becoming quite fond of her.
"So Daisy, Zoe and I have agreed that you seem ready to move in with them." Mrs Hardey told me on one of the rare occasions I was sleeping at the orphanage.
"Really?!" I had been excited to move in ever since I had become more comfortable around them.
"I'm guessing that's okay with you since you seem excited."
"I love Zoe and Alfie, they're the best thing that's ever happened to me."
"Aw Dais, I love you too." Zoe says coming through the door.
"I had a feeling you'd say yes." Mrs Hardey grinned.
"Should we go home then Daisy?"
"Okay wait a sec." I walked closer to Mrs Hardey and gave her a hug. "Thank you so much, Mrs Hardey."
"It was my pleasure, Daisy. Now go and enjoy yourself."
I ran up to the little bedroom I had been sleeping in and picked up the few items I had at the orphanage, most of my stuff was at Zoe's house.
"Ready to go?" Zoe asked me.
"Yep." She took some of my stuff off me so that it wasn't too heavy and we went out to the car together to make our way home.
-
"So we've decided that you should start school on Monday. Is that okay with you Daisy? If you're not ready you can wait for a bit."
"It's fine, I really want to start school."
"Yay! That means we can go shopping together tomorrow." Zoe seemed excited. She genuinely loved doing things with me and treating me although I had absolutely no idea why.
We spent the rest of the evening watching Netflix and eating pizza together. I was resting my head on Zoe's shoulder when I realised Alfie wasn't here, again.
"Where's Alfie?" I asked.
"Oh, he's gone out with Chai. He won't be back for a while yet."
But something in her voice told me that wasn't the full truth.
-
Zoe took me shopping, as promised, the next day.
"We have to get you cute stationary and a cute bag and everything." She exclaimed excitedly as we walked into WH Smiths. She mainly picked out everything, not that I was bothered, which left me just standing around slightly awkwardly.
Eventually, we left the shop and went into mine and Zoe's favourite high street beauty store, Superdrug. We picked up the usual essentials first such as makeup wipes and cotton pads then moved onto makeup. I was eyeing up Maybelline's new contour kit when Zoe came up behind me.
"Oh is that the master sculpt?"
"Yeah, it looks pretty good."
"You're a bit young for contouring though, Dais."
"Yeah I guess so." I say disappointed.
"How about some new lipstick? This light pink will suit you nicely."
"Oh yeah, thanks Zo."
We paid for our stuff and then walked out of Superdrug.
"Shit." I whispered.
"Daisy! Don't swear like that!"
"Hide me Zoe!"
"What?"
"Just do it, I'll explain in a bit!"
Zoe moved in front of me, but one second too late.
"Daisy!"
I blacked out before hitting the floor.
