Chapter 14

When I wake up, the first thing I see is Zoe and Alfie sitting at the end of my hospital bed. I try to sit up whilst rubbing my eyes but I am told to lie down again.

"You need rest Dais." Zoe said. "Try and go to sleep again, we'll still be here when you wake up."

I try to go to sleep but can't do end up faking just to please Zoe. When I'm "asleep" a doctor comes in and updates them on my situation.

"Obviously she's very malnourished from not eating and dehydration has affected her kidneys. We're going to have to build her back up again with plenty of water and food before she can come home. She's got a lot of bruises and possibly scarring but it hasn't done any internal damage luckily."

"How long do you think she'll have to stay here for?" Alfie asks.

"I'd say at least five days but maybe even a week."

"That's not too bad. Is there anywhere one of us can sleep? I think it'd be best if there's always one of us here as she has quite bad anxiety."

"That's fine, we'll get a camp bed set up for you."

When the doctor leaves the room Alfie and Zoe have a conversation between them.

"We need to find her mother and father and put them behind bars." Zoe begins.

"The police are searching, they'll update us." Alfie replies.

"I think we should take her on a nice holiday somewhere." Zoe suggests.

"Well she definitely deserves it, but where?"

"I don't know, but she's never been on holiday before I think she'd love it and it'll be a good way for her to de-stress a bit."

My heart swelled up with love for both of them. I was so lucky that they walked into my life.

Six days later I was leaving the hospital. Although I wasn't 100% yet, I had improved enough to go home though I had strict instructions to eat well and drink lots. It was a short drive home from the hospital and I think Zoe and Alfie were pleased that they no longer had to take it in turns to stay there even though they never complained about it. I was so thankful for them and had started to think of a way to surprise them.

As soon as we got home I went to my room to put my bag down. I'd unpack later. I went back down to the kitchen to get a glass of water as I'd only had one glass today and it was already midday.

As soon as I entered the living room Zoe made me go out again and sent me up to my room saying she'd call me when she was ready.

Eventually, after about 15 minutes, Zoe said I could come downstairs. I walked into the living room and found Tanya and Jim, Joe, Louise and Darcy. They all shouted surprise when I walked in and came up to me and hugged me one by one. After all the hugging was finished Zoe told me to come over to the coffee table where there was a large present in the middle. I unwrapped it eagerly to find a plain brown box. I then opened the box to find the iPhone 6S in rose gold.

"Oh my God! Thank you so much!"

"Well we figured you didn't have a phone now and needed a new one." Zoe said.

"You deserved it littler one." Alfie said giving me a hug.

"I'm so grateful for everything." I said looking round at everybody.

We spent the rest of the day doing various things. Alfie, Joe and Jim went upstairs to do YouTube stuff, Tanya, Zoe and Louise did some baking while I played with Darcy. We helped a bit with the baking but mostly played the peppa pig game on Louise's phone and set up my new phone. Then I decided I needed a nap as I was very tired so went upstairs and crawled into bed.

A few hours later, Zoe called me down to get some dinner with everybody. They had ordered Domino's (What a surprise) and had cake and cookies that Zoe, Tanya and Lousie had baked earlier in the middle of the table. I helped myself to a couple of slices of pizza (They had made sure to order pepperoni, my favourite) and had a large glass of water. I kind of went overboard on dessert and just kept eating but I figured it didn't really matter, I had gone nearly a week and a half on absolutely nothing so it wouldn't hurt.

The rest of the evening was spent watching random, Darcy appropriate movies and just messing around and the whole time, whilst joining in, I was thinking of how glad i was that I have Zoe and Alfie as parents and had great friends.
