*Riley’s POV*
Math was the worst thing ever invented. Worse then bombs, guns, hatred. No, math was the king of evil. Okay.. Maybe one thing was worse then math. An expression crossed my face, I could tell be how other’s looked away nervously. Worse then Math was Rex Southern.
I scribbled down an incorrect awnser and got up, handing in my poorly done test. Whatever-like my future career would involve math anyways. I mean, honestly, I didn’t want to find someone elses missing x.. I wanted my own back to badly. “How’d you do?” I murmur to Henry
His eye’s slid sluggishly to mine. I actually flinch. “Henry..?”
He looked like a genuine zombie. “What?” he groaned, slamming his head gaisnt the desk.
“I-….. Are you okay?” He didn’t look to okay. Since when was he sick?
“………” He looked at me, and I fougth off a shudder. He appeared to be looking through me.
“Henry, do you need to go to the nurse or-” the bell rang, cutting me off.
He got up, and without looking at me, left the room. And I thought I had problems.
I pushed my chair back and left the room as well. It was lunch, and though I could sit with anyone I liked, with Henry as he was, who did I even want to sit with? The flock of students who had become replacements for my old group held no appeal to me.
How was I popular but had no one to sit with at lunch?
I angrily walked into the cafeteria and looked from seat to seat, hunching my shoulders against the wall of loud chatter. No seat appealed to me, except of course, Charlie’s. He was with Quinn, Tia, and Ollie though, and even if those people didn’t hate me, he probably wouldn’t stay anywhere near me anyways.
I almost screamed when I saw something worse then my haters amoung my Charlie. Rex. He was sitting at the edge of the table, smiling at Charlie! And… Charlie was smiling back? A glower settled on my face and I took a step in that direction.
“Riley!” A voice beckoned, and then I saw Katy elbow her way towards me.
Oh great, jus what I needed-confrontation with the wrong nusiance.
“What?” I snapped as she stopped in front of me. Her fingers curled around my arm, and she gave me a seductive smirk. What the hell? Why was this girl so insane…
“Let’s go for a little walk?” she suggests.
“I’m good….” she gives me a pull.
“I insist” I start to dig my heels in, then I see Charlie.
He’s watching with a dazed expression on his face. I go with her willingly.
Outside of the café she releases me and veers left, hurrying down that hall as if embarrassed to be seen with me. Whatever, like it’s some kind of dream to be seen with the sluttest girl in school. I trail after her, getting annoyed. “Where are we going?” I ask after a minute.
She stops dead, and looks around, her features composed “Here’s fine..”
“Ok.. Now want to tell me what it’s fine for?” I ask, unhappy.
“To do you a little favor Riley hun” she steps forward and squishes my cheeks in her hands.
“Ugh, no thank you” I say disgusted, stepping back. Her face twists.
“Eww, I didn’t mean it like that fairy boy” Thank god above..
“I meant, have you met Rexy? I’m sure you have, he’s a darling boy” she grins.
My face falls, and presumably turns green “Yes, and I already know he’s after Charlie, your point?”
“Oh Riley” she chuckles “I didn’t bring you here to tease you..” the coy look in her eye’s disagrees “..I brought you here for poor Charlie’s sake. I think a nice sweet boy like Rex would be good for him, don’t you?” she smooths out the front of my shirt “So you should just, you know, back off..?”
I wish I had a girl here, because I’d pay her to punch Katy.
“That’s not really any of your business whore, I’ll do what I like…”
She flutters her heavily lashed eye’s at me “Don’t you want him to be happy?”
“Yep” I snarl “With me” then, because I can’t look at her any longer, I leave.
*********************
Looking into my thought for the length of time you already have, by now you must know that I’m not exactly a gentleman. I don’t hold doors or pull out chairs. I party and occasionally smoke, though I’m nothing close to a stoner. Most importantly-I get into fights.
Charlie see’s me the moment before I do what I do. I can tell by the way his eye’s wince up at mine, pleading me to just disapear back into the scenery of the cafeteria. I look away, to much pain looking into his eye’s, then I tap Rex’s shoulder. He looks back, making the perfect target.
My fist snaps forward with deadly speed, connecting with his jaw. A satisfying pain electrifies my fist and I know it’s because it hurt him ten fold. He’s out of his seat in a moment, and I can tell by the size of his arms and his obvious weight and height that we’re on equal footing.
“What the hell man!” he complains, rubbing his jaw. His eye’s have a predatory flash in them.
“That was just a warning” I smirk “Keep talking to my boy” my eye’s slide to Charlie “and it’ll get a lot worse” Charlie stands and rushes to Rex’s side. Anger trembles through my being and I watch as my boy guides that ass swipe to the nurse’s office.
Quinn looks up at me with carmel brown eye’s and I look away, thinking maybe I didn’t deserve someone like Charlie after all.
