Chapter 9

I continued sobbing into KO's shirt as everyone else acted awkward around me. I couldn't blame them though; no one had ever seen me cry like that. I had never seen myself like that. So - so weak, so vulnerable. Well done, Scott. Well done.

I wiggled out of Kevin's protective grasp and smiled appreciatively before heading towards my room. I cried even more and, for some reason, felt relieved. It felt as if a huge burden had been removed and I was completely free. I actually couldn't even remember why I was crying.

I took a lovely nap, only to be woken up by a shouting Mitch.

I walked to the lounge and realized he was on the phone.
"This is a big thing for us! Please think about that!" he shouted and I had no idea what had gotten him so ticked off. He was silent for a short while.
"Well, she is gonna forget you. You two won't last." He said before seeing me and keeping quiet.

"Mitch..." I asked uncertainly, "Was that Scott?" He didn't reply but the look he gave me confirmed my suspicions.

"I thought about what you said last night," Mitch said eventually. I didn't even remember what I said. "We are putting off a big break for Scott, who could go back to South Africa, anytime. It's not like he's been in this 'relationshit' for five whole years."

I don't have any idea why, but I felt like it was my job to save the day. I couldn't see KO anywhere around the house so I took his laptop and emailed the guy who was responsible for the gig. He responded almost immediately and I smiled proudly at my handiwork.

I took my phone and dialed the number I'd come to know off by heart. Scott.

The phone rang about four times before he answered.

I had made a decision to detox Scott Hoying out of my system and talking to him on the phone for a while would not do me, or anyone else, any justice.

"Hey, just want you to know that I managed to change the tickets. Monday night, 9pm!" I said quickly and tried to hang up.
"Thanks, Kirstie," he replied with a soft voice and I melted right there. "Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Scott soon returned from his African wild goose chase. We were in the lounge practicing for the big day. "Scott," Mitch said to get Scott's attention as he had missed his turn, "Scott?" "

SCOTT!" we all shouted and he eventually came back to his senses. We sang and as soon as we finished, Scott went to his room.

We had a little tradition to always end a rehearsal with a little Vine to tease the fans, Scott left before we could even do that.

At that moment, there was no one I hated more than that Elsa girl. He had ruined my Scott. Our Scott.

"Kirstie," Mitch says after we hear Scott's door close. "What was I thinking? This is all my fault..." I couldn't understand why Mitch was blaming himself for wanting what's best for Pentatonix, but he did. Mitch left the house with a brilliant plan and came back two hours later, with an envelope.

I was on the couch watching "Blended" when the front door opened. Mitch went straight to Scott's room.

Mitch looked really excited and I was tempted to follow him, but the cold side of me told me that if Mitch wanted me to know his excitement, he would have told me about it.

"What do you mean Scott left for South Africa again?!" I shouted at Mitch, "We literally have two days before the big pitch!"

Because that was the reason why I wanted Scott there, for the concert. I lied to myself.

"Kirstie," Mitch said calmly, "there's no use having a half-dead Scott here."

Well there was if his presence is all you wanted to make you feel at home.
"Well he's gone and we just lost the contract," Mitch said. I could not believe it at all. Scott had chosen her over PTX. It was okay to choose her over me, but Pentatonix was his life. He wouldn't have even met her if it weren't for Pentatonix.

I thought back to the first time we went to Africa. I knew going to this Africa place was a terrible idea. I should have cancelled my mountain hike to go to that JCC Ball with Mitch and Scott. It's as if Elsa knew Scott would be there and choose to dance with her. If it weren't for Mio and Queenie, Scott would have never gone to Port Elizabeth, they must have organized it. Even a year after we left, Scott was still filled with Elsa in his mind. It must have been a conspiracy. I knew they used voodoo in Africa!

I laughed at how crazy that sounded. I think when you're in love you try to come up with excuses and theories why the other party doesn't reciprocate the feelings. No matter how crazy they sound.

I was on the couch with KO, Avi and Mitch when my phone rang. I knew it'd ware off and he'd come back to his senses.

"Hey, Scott!" I said with a cheery tone.
"Hi... Kirstie..." Scott said sadly.
"What's wrong, you sound down?" I asked with concern and the answer I received made me feel like a child in a candy store. Scott said he had to go and I hung up.

"AND...?" everyone looked at me questioningly.

I couldn't help the smile that crept onto my face as I said this:

"Elsa's in a coma."
