Chapter 18

Nurses went in and out checking up on him, I went back in by myself about an hour later. "Dad.. I have a question" I said walking over to the side of his bed.

"Yes" he said in a low voice, "Why didn't you tell us about you and mom having a kid" I whispered just enough for him to hear.

"How do you know about that?" He asked turning to me. "We found the secret room with a bunch of papers, we went through since we saw a lot of baby photos and ones from a long time ago" I smiled remembering the photos.

"Oh, well me and your mom wanted another kid wanted another young one. Since Calum was on tour we rarely saw him, we still had you which was amazing. Also you guys were growing up" he smiled.

"But after we had the kid we were scared of you guys hating us or yourself thinking we didn't like you guys and wanted a biological kid" he sighed.

"So we gave her up, but we were still happy with just you guys don't think any different" he smiled holding my hand.

He paused for a minute thinking before slowly asking, "did she make it". I knew he was talking about mom.

I tried to stay strong and not cry but of course that never works, "she was alive when I found her but she had already lost to much blood we wouldn't of been able to get her to the hospital fast enough" I said tears running down my face.

"She died in my arms" I said my voice breaking. "It's okay sweetie" he said crying as well as he brought me in for a hug.

I'm stayed in for about two hours more before he soon grew tired so I left the room allowing him to sleep.

I walked out, "come with me" I said grabbing Calum as anyone who wanted to come just had to follow of course everyone came as I got in and started driving us.

"Where are we going" Rachel asked in the backseat. "The orphanage" I said plainly as I soon turned into the driveway and raced out.

I walked in and went to the lady behind the desk, 'Susan' read her name tag. "Do you know anything about a little girl name Ruby Smith" I asked.

"Yeah she is actually in the play room" the lady smiled sweetly. "She hasn't gotten adopted?" I asked. "She did.. twice" she started.

"No one could keep up with her she was a horrible child they would say, saying she was breaking stuff, and she never bonded with them" she sighed as she lead us down a hall.

"Are you guys a couple wanting to adopt" she asked us. "No, we are brother and sister" I laughed, then realized how that sounded.

"Our parents that adopted us, they had a kid but didn't tell us they didn't us to think that they didn't want us" I explained.

"A tornado just hit our city, our mom is dead.. and my dad isn't gonna make it" I said my voice lowering.

I cleared my throat feeling a lump growing as the time passed by, "We were thinking she would have been adopted and we would have to go and find them and try to get her to come visit her dad before he passes" I said.

"Maybe even adopt her because she will be the last thing left of them" I told her my voice breaking as she nodded and rubbed my shoulder comforting.

"I'm sorry about your parents" she said before continuing down the hall. She brought us to a room labeled, 'Kids Room' with flowers, butterflies, and ladybugs and other insect stickers covered the door.

She walked in as we all saw across the room apple sauce spilled on the floor and a little girl with some on her outfit as she grabbed a picture frame off of the wall and threw it to the ground it smashing, glass pieces flying everywhere.

"Ruby!" the lady yelled walking over and grabbed her by the arm sitting her in a chair talking to her telling her what she did was bad, lecturing her.

"Do you understand what you did was wrong" she asked Ruby as she was crouched down next to her. Ruby nodded as she was let go and went to the toy section as the lady cleaned up the mess.

Calum and I talked and played with some of the kids as we waited for her to finished cleaning not wanting to make anything awkward.

"Ruby, there are some people here wanting to meet you" she said as Ruby skipped over and walked over to us, "you're them.." Ruby whispered looking at us.
