Chapter 19

I stopped dead in my tracks and looked at her as she said that. "What?" I asked confused thinking I might have heard her wrong.

"Sam and Cal" she said slowly trying to remember. "You're my brother and sister" she smiled slightly. "Why did mommy and daddy put me here" she asked us.

"Let's not talk about that right now..." I smiled slightly. "We wanted to see if you could come and see daddy" I whispered crouching down next to her.

"Daddy's in the hospital and probably wont make it, but he will go somewhere way better. Where mommy is" I whispered trying to explain what is going on.

Her bottom lip trembled and her eyes filled with tears as she understood what I meant. "Can I go see him" she turned to Susan. She nodded, "thank you" I smiled and stood up and extended my hand.

Ruby took it quickly and held on tight as we walked out and too the car as everyone was there waiting.

Rachel was in awe or her, Ruby had blue eyes with a hint of brown and her hair was a beautiful Hazel color. She sat in my lap in the front seat, dangerous I know.

But the hospital was literally 3-5 minutes away and there were no cops out as they were searching houses for people in case they cant get out.

We pulled in and I got out then got her out, I walked while holding her hand as we went in and went to his room. He looked worse, it was obvious he wasn't going to make it.

I pushed through the threat of tears and walked slowly with Ruby, "Dad.. there is someone here to meet you" I said to him.

He opened his eyes slowly and looked from me to Ruby and his eyes lit up, "Hi Daddy" she smiled and ran to him and gave him a big hug.

He started crying happy tears, as did I. She stepped back and wiped his tears and smiled a toothy smile to him.

"You have your mother's smile" he smiled sniffling, "I've missed you" she smiled to him, he smiled wiping his tears before he sat back up and grabbed his chest, "Dad!" I shouted running over.

I pressed the call button repeatedly, "Somebody please, we need help" I yelled as the doctor ran in and Ruby and I backed up and she hid her face in my leg as I covered my mouth terrified.

He stopped for about 3 seconds before he started shaking uncontrollably, he was having a seizure. I picked up Ruby and brought her outside of the room taking her away from all of the commotion.

"Is he going to be okay?" she asked me spilling tears of her own. "I don't know sweetie" I said brushing her hair back and wiping her tears along with mine.

"We just have to stay strong, and keep up hope" I smiled slightly as she nodded. "I want to stay with you, I don't want to go back.." she whispered talking about the orphanage.

I sat her on my lap as I sat against a wall in a quiet hallway, "We'll see" I whispered smiling.
