By the time the final bell rang, Tara was done — physically, emotionally, and spiritually done. The kind of done that even caffeine couldn't fix.

Her bag felt heavier than usual, her patience thinner, and the only thought in her head was bed.

She trudged down the steps of the college, ignoring the whispers around her about "the new professor" and the way half the girls were pretending to study just to catch a glimpse of him. Whatever. She had better things to do — like sleep for three days straight.

Riya jogged beside her. "You're coming tonight, right? Everyone's still talking about the Rehaan incident!"

Tara groaned. "Riya, I swear if anyone mentions that idiot again, I'll move to Mars."

Riya laughed. "Fair. See you tomorrow?"

"Yeah," Tara said, waving lazily before heading toward the parking area. Her driver was already waiting, standing stiff beside the sleek black car that belonged more to her father's reputation than her comfort.

The ride back was quiet, the city fading into long stretches of road lined with trees and tall, cold walls. And then — the mansion appeared. The kind of place that screamed power and silence at the same time.

Tara stepped out and looked up at it, that same familiar weight pressing against her chest.

She'd grown up here, technically. But home? No. That word belonged to her Massi's small, cozy house — not this marble museum of rules and money.

Inside, everything was polished, organized, lifeless. The servants moved like shadows. The air smelled faintly of lilies and control.

Her father was in his study, as always. She found him sitting behind his enormous desk, papers spread out neatly in front of him, a phone call ending just as she entered.

"Tara," he said without looking up. "You're late."

"I wasn't aware I was on a timer," she replied, flopping into the chair opposite him.

He ignored the tone, as usual. "Your mother and sister will be arriving tomorrow."

That made her blink. "From Turkey?"

He nodded once, eyes still on his papers. "For your sister's wedding. There will be dinners, guests, arrangements. I expect you to behave accordingly this time."

Tara leaned back, crossing her arms. "Ah, the royal circus begins."

He finally looked up, his expression sharp. "Don't make a scene, Tara."

She smiled sweetly, the kind of smile that only ever made him angrier. "I'll try not to, Father. But you know me — no promises."

He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, already done with the conversation. She stood, smoothing her hair, and turned toward the door.
