The night had turned loud and golden — the kind of party that smelled of expensive perfume, loud laughter, and too many people pretending they were having the best time of their lives.
Except for Tara and Ahaan. They actually were.

They had carved out their own little corner on the dance floor, moving in rhythm with the beat, laughing at their own ridiculous moves. Tara's heels had been abandoned somewhere near a table, and Ahaan had taken off his blazer, spinning it dramatically like a performer.

"Okay, okay, admit it," Tara said between laughs, "you'd die without me here. You need my sparkle to survive these boring people."

Ahaan clutched his heart. "Sparkle? You threw a drink at someone last week — that's not sparkle, that's danger in heels."

"That was self-defense!" she said, widening her eyes in fake innocence. "He deserved it. Besides, it made me famous for a day — people still whisper when I pass by."

"Oh, yeah," Ahaan grinned, "you're the campus legend now. Tara: the girl who broke a glass and half the college's ego in one night."

"Wow," she said, flipping her hair dramatically. "Finally, some recognition."

They both burst out laughing, the kind that turned heads. Neither of them cared.

When the song switched, Ahaan leaned closer. "Okay, confession. This is getting boring. What do you say we bail before someone drags us into another dull speech?"

Tara smirked, eyes glinting. "You mean ditch the party and do something stupid?"

"Exactly."

"Say less."

Within minutes, they were sneaking out through the back, trying not to draw attention — though Tara's giggles weren't exactly quiet. Ahaan tripped over a flower pot halfway to the car, and she nearly collapsed laughing.

"Smooth," she said, holding her side. "Very stealthy, James Bond."

He rubbed his elbow. "You could've helped me instead of dying from laughter."

"I could've," she said, still laughing, "but where's the fun in that?"

By the time they reached the car, the party lights were fading behind them, replaced by the hum of the night and the promise of mischief.

"Where are we going?" she asked, sliding into the passenger seat.

Ahaan smirked. "My place. No speeches, no fake smiles, and I've got better music."

Tara leaned back, grinning. "Fine. But if I get caught sneaking into your mansion again, you're explaining it to your mom this time."

"Deal," he said, starting the car.

The engine roared to life, and the city lights blurred as they drove off — two friends escaping everything ordinary, completely unaware of what was waiting on the other side of the night.
