CORRUPT ME

I looked at myself one last time

I looked at myself one last time.

Soft pastel outfit, delicate embroidery, nothing too heavy—but still enough to make people stare. My dupatta sat perfectly, my bangles catching light every time I moved.

Perfect.

Not for anyone. Just for me.

"You're late," my sister whispered as I slipped beside her.

"I'm fashionably on time," I corrected, fixing her dupatta like I hadn't just rushed across the hall.

She rolled her eyes.

I grinned.

The room felt calm.

Quiet voices, soft smiles, that peaceful kind of happiness that only comes with moments like this.

For once—I didn't feel restless.

I leaned closer to her. "You sure about this?"

She smiled softly. "Very."

I nodded.

"Good. Because I already threatened him once."

She elbowed me lightly. I laughed.

The ceremony began. Voices lowered. Movements softened.

For a moment— Everything felt simple.

The molvi asked my sister and she replied

"Qubool hai." Her voice was steady.

I smiled, genuinely. And then—

Ahaan. Of course.

"If you cry, I'm recording it," he whispered behind me.

I didn't even turn. "Try it and I'll ruin your life."

"Worth it."

I elbowed him. He stumbled. Not dramatically. Just enough.

And bumped into someone behind him.

I didn't turn. Didn't need to. I already knew by the scent.

But still

Out of pure instinct—I glanced.

Zade.

He barely moved, steady as always, like the impact didn't even exist.

His gaze flicked to me.

Brief. Waiting.

I held it for half a second. Then looked away. Like it didn't matter.

Like he didn't.

Ahaan leaned back again. "You pushed me."

"You're dramatic."

"You're violent."
