My Kind of Retribution

So what if I'm different? What if I don't belong to a group? I'm not special - just someone you probably see once in a while. I do  a few crazy things sometimes just because I can. The best part is, I love doing it! Not a big deal considering it doesn't hurt anyone. At least, that's what I thought. Blind to whatever look was directed at me at the time, I was what you'd call naive.

Ignorance is bliss, right?

I wasn't a brilliant student, just studious. To what end? I  just wanted to pass the grade by doing my best in whatever task was thrown at me.

Classmates want to copy my notes and homework. Okay, but I want you to understand how I got my answers. Maybe, next time you won't have to copy mine and my friend's? Sure we won't mind you copying though it's unfair when you get a better grade and don't understand half of what we did. Ah, well. It must be hard...copying.

Copy my notes before finals? Umm, terribly sorry. I have to  study. You see, I  used to loan my notebook until one day someone forgot to return it. Come to think of it, I would've probably done better in the test if  that person returned it on time.

Breaking school  regulations? Fine, I'll try to ignore what's happening in front of me, as long as I'm not involved.

I told you I can't be a part of this. There'll be hell to pay when the grownups find out! My grownups!

To hell with this stuff! I'm leaving!

Too late. They already know...

And now they know.

You blamed me for getting found out. You made the rules that I couldn't play. I warned you. No one listened.

All you remember now are my mistakes. You forgot how I helped you with homework; whispered the answer when the teacher asked you; and listened when you wanted to talk to someone.

And I learned what betrayal felt like - the backstabbing and the petty rivalries. I know now who my true friends are.

Fine. Throw all your insults at me, but I'm done being blind, deaf and mute.

It's my turn to show you who I really am.

Just you watch what I can become.

When we meet again - if ever we do, I'll thank you.
