Prized Possessions

I lived wanting for nothing, yet I desired for more.

Born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I need only ask and it was given

More toys, more clothes, more food... anything my heart desires

I will have, they said.

But I wanted more.

Friends were easy to acquire.

Give them what they want

And they'll dance to your tune

Those who do not were replaced

Still, I wanted more.

Then I lost everything

Friends dwindled

I was alone...

I could not have anything without working for it

The things I slowly obtained I began to treasure

A person I once discarded returned

Words were exchanged

Harsh at first

Gentler the next

Then a few others came back

They brought gifts of kindness, laughter, and loyalty

And there was nothing I could ever want.
