*Hermione's room. Summer of 5th year.*

She lay on her bed, parchment, quills, and books scattered on the floor around her (Crookshanks sleeping in the corner), she thought of those few words that refused to leave her mind.

*Flashback*

The halls were filled with bustling students from her year, eager to get on the train home for summer. She looked over heads all around her, searching for that familiar red head so she could say goodbye before they left. Just as she was about to give up and join everyone else on the train, she heard a desperate shout of "HERMIONE!". She spun round (much to the annoyance of the people around her) to see Ronald Weasley barging through the crowd in his haste to get to her. Not apologising to the people he pushed to the floor. Typical. When he reached her he was panting as if he had ran a marathon. Not that he knew what that was.

"Are... you... deaf?!" He asked between breaths.

"No. Why?" she asked, confused.

"I have been shouting for a good bloody half hour! How come you only just heard me now?" he replied.

"For your information, I was actually looking for you mister I-constantly-need-to-wash-my-mouth-with-soap." she told him, matter-of-factly.

"Oh... well you don't need to look anymore then." He answered with a smile.

She looked at him before pulling him into a tight hug. She was going to miss him very much.

They hugged for a few seconds before he said, "I promise I'll write so you can come to The Burrow sometime this summer."

*Flashback over.*

Well, if he's going to write, he had better hurry up. There's only 2 weeks and 3 days left of summer. She thought to herself.

Just then, as if on cue, she heard tapping at her window. There was Pigwidegon fluttering around excitedly, proud to have delivered another letter successfully. She walked over to the window and started to open it. As soon as the gap was wide enough he zoomed in. She chuckled at the sight of this miniscule owl moving at such an alarming rate. She untied the scroll attached to his leg and collapsed onto her bed. While the owl happily flew around her room, she opened up the parchment:

Dear Hermione,

I'm really sorry that I didn't write sooner. I've been really busy. would you like to spend the last two weeks at The Burrow? Send back your answer with Pig. Hope you can come.

Obviously, Ron (who else would ask you to stay at The Burrow)

She laughed at the last comment, rolling her eyes. She grabbed some parchment and a quill from the floor with a jolt of excitement as she pounded down the stairs two at a time, not caring that she could fall and receive serious injury.

When she made it down the stairs in one piece she barged into the kitchen where her mum was cooking dinner. Her mum turned around with a small smile on her face. She already had a good idea what her daughter might be so excited about.

"Someone's excited." She said with amusement, "What is it dearie?"

"Is it ok if I spend the last two weeks of summer at The Burrow?" she said, slightly out of breath.

Her mum raised her eyebrows before laughing, "Of course you can!"

Hermione's face lit up as she grinned, thanked her mum and returned to her room. When she opened the door, Pigwidegon flew right at her. She laughed as she wrote a hasty reply:

Dear Ron,

Of course I would love to! See you soon.

Hermione

P.S. apology accepted.

She quickly attached the scroll to Pigwidegon's leg and opened the window a little wider for him to leave. She started to pack her things; she was supposed to go to The Burrow in 3 days. She also packed her Hogwarts things when she remembered that she wouldn't have the opportunity to come back here for it. After the tedious chore of packing was over, she walked calmly down the stairs even though she wanted to jump and slide down the banisters. She walked into the dining room just as her mum was setting down the last fork.

"Just in time! Sit down dear." her mum said with a smile.

Dinner was spaghetti bolognaise that night, and while her parents talked about their days at work, Hermione stared down at her pasta, deep in thought. She wanted to finish her food quickly so that she could pass the time by reading.

Her dad looked at her with a face of mock concern. "What's so exciting?" he asked. He knew perfectly well that she was excited. And also why she was excited. Her mum had told him earlier while setting the table.

"I'm just happy that I get to see my best friends two weeks earlier." She didn't actually know if Harry was going to be there, but he was Ron's best friend after all. But if it was only her going...

"That's lovely honey." her dad said, dragging her out of her thoughts and back into the conversation. All through the rest of dinner she remained silent, trying to finish her dinner as quickly as she could so that she could pass the time reading. She bade them good night and went to her room. After many attempts to read Hogwarts: A History she went to sleep, she was too excited to focus on the words on the page.
